Teacher Interview - Mr Forrest Mr. Forrest was raised in Bothwell, near Chatham, went to school in Amhertburg, and university at Waterloo College, now W.L.U. After universtiy he came here, to F.E.Madill, where he is a teacher and guidance counselor. Mr. Forrest has been here since the fall of 1963. This year, half 'of his time goes to teaching English, the other half to the guidance department. Mr. Forrest has been involved in the Reach For The Top team for a very long time. He says that the team usually gets to the quar ter, or semi-finals. This year, however, the team was not so successful. Outside of the school, Mr. Forrest takes an active interest in the Canadian Cancer Society. He is also involved in the fund raising of the Canadian Cancer Society. Mr. Forrest enjoys cross- country skiing, jogging and bicycling. He enjoys these, but he claims that he is not athletic. He also enjoys watching the local sports teams, as well as reading. Mr. Forrest is married, and has a two year old son. His wife is a former teacher of Wingham Public School. As a counselor Mr. Forrest deals .primarily with educational, and vocational problems, as well as personal problems. Mr. Forrest pointed out that he was glad that he started teaching here, and that he likes the area. He feels that the students are responsible. As for school spirit, it depends on the student, but he noted that there is a greater competition for a student's time. Steven Johann Boys' Basketball The senior Mustangs, on January 12th played a hard- fought game with the Goderich Vikings on the Goderich courts. With one player absent from the game and another in foul trouble, early in the game, the team had trouble trying to stay even with the Vikings. They were, however, not strong enough to hold off the Vikings 'who came away with a clsoe 60-53 victory. On the same day the junior basketball team played and unfortuinately lost 63-43 to Goderich. Some poor rebounding and shooting resulted in a disadvantage for our team. Grant Gnay led the scoring with twenty- one points and Paul Cerson added ten. Thursday, the midget Mustangs were defeated 44-36 by the Goderich midgets. Our Mustangs generally played well against Goderich throughout the game and even outscored the Vikings 22-15 in the second half. The reason for the loss of the game was free throw shooting. Goderich sank seven out of twelve baskets from the free throw line while our Mustangs managed only six out of twenty-seven shots. Also Craig Anderson was put out of the game early with an injury which didn't help the Mustang team much. Jim Le- Grand led the Mustang scoring with eleven points and Mike Leahy and Peter Goodall added six each. .Dianne McBride Seniut Boys'.• Basketball Tournament The 'senior basketball team attended the Third Annual Basketball classic at Listowel' District • Secondary School on Saturday, January 14th. Among the other participants present were the Listowel Lords, Chesley Cougars, Norwell Redmex, Owen Sound West Hill Raiders, Centre Wellington Falcons, Seaforth Golden Bears and the Owen Sound C.V.I. Falcons. The Mustangs won their first game 70-47 played against Centre Wellington and were on their way to the Championship when they were beaten badly by Q.S.C.V.I. This tournament was godd experience for our team and much was learned just by watching other teams in action. The Players had a great time and it is hoped that their games will be Improved from this excursion. Dianne 'McBride Tricylce Races If a casual passer-by happened to saunter into the main hall of F.E.Madill S.S., at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 17, perhaps they might have been puzzled at the sudden turn of events. Instead of empty, peaceful halls, with industrious classes in process, four individuals were racing madly down the halls on tricycles. Cur- ious onlookers lined both sides of the halls and stepped back apprehensively as the first tricycle, bearing a helmeted Laurie Johnson, came screeching by. In a few seconds, three more strangely clad individuals came into view, raced by, and careened around the corner. After a lengthy excursion through the school corridors, and down several stairs, the four tricycle racers pulled around a bend, and neared the finish line. Pedaling furiously, David Hanna, came in first place, Laurie Johnson second, Diane McDonald third, and Julie King finished fourth. The tircyle races were only a small part of the Winter Carnival Week at F.E.Madill. Rachel. Wallace Student I nterviews Question: What did you do for the winter carnival?
