Of her new job, Mrs. Garniss
says she enjoys meeting the
public and "I've been here so
long I'd miss it if I weren'there."
The Huron.Xounty Board of
Education approved a request
Wednesday from the Listowel
Ministerial Association to begin
religious instruction classes in
Grey Central Public. School. The
association asked the principal of
Grey. Central for permission to
begin one half hour lesson twice a
month with each of the Grade 5,
6, 7 and 8.
Pastor Laurie Morris of the
Listowel association contacted the
school after the home and school
association for Grey Central had
discussed the religious instruc-
tion several times with the Grey
Central principal. The board was
told (that it. was the home and
school that asked the ministers to
:see what could be arranged by the
-.ministerial association.
John • Cochrane, director of
education, fold the board that the
school would have. to send forms
home with students to give
parents a chance to decide if they
wanted their children taking
religious iinstruction. He said the
parents has the right to exempt
the child from the classes the
same as they have the right to
excuse the child from "standing
during 0' Canada or sayling the
Lord's Prayer during. opening
exerciies".- -
Mr. Cochrane told the board
that the principal would be
meeting with representatives of
the association to draw up
guidelines and a course of study
prior to starting the lessons. He
added that different ministers
would then be responsible fot
different parts of the course but
that the principal' Would have final
say on what Was taught,

The members of the Brussels
Senior Citizens Friendship Club
do not intend to let the cold and
snow keep them indoors this
winter. They keep activities
going. Their meeting will be held
on Wednesday,January 25th if we
are not, once more, shut in with
another wild winter storm.

number of talented artists in this
area? If you are not acquainted
with them, , and their work, you
will have an opportunity to meet
them and view their paintings in
the near future. Several of those.
local area artists will have a
display of their work at the Grey
Central Home and School regular
meeting at the school , on
Tuesday, January 24th. The
meeting begins at 8:15 but you
will be able to admire the art
display from 7:30 on and also
after the meeting. Mrs. Ila
Kayes, the co-ordinator of
Student Services with ,the Huron
County Board of Education, -will
be the special' speaker at the
meeting. Anyone in the
community is -weleorne to come-
and enjoy the art display and also
hear the speaker,

learn thatthe Bitssel§ Lion's Club
Will sponsor "Polar Daize" thiS
This had,becoine: a popular
annual activity that was looked
forward to each year and missed
when it was, not held last year. It
will take place in February and
the Lions plans are, well tinderWay
for events that will make "Polar
,

should make a repert to the board

participants and spectators.

The week of January 23rd -
28th is "Nutrition Week".
Nutrition `is something
that should be of concern to
Canadians of all ages but of
special concern to those responsi-
ble for good nutrition for children.
Nutrition , Education in the
Schools is the focus of this year's
program to make teachers and
parents aware of its importance.
It has been said of adult
"Canadians that they are
overweight and undernourished;
across between a cream puff and
a jelly roll because of the lack of
good nutrition.

We have heard complaints
from . some merchants that too
many 'trucks park on the main
business streeet here. As many as
ten trucks were counted on one
side of the street, in one bloclk ,
at the same time. This leaves
little -space for shoppers to park
their cars anyWhere ..ear the
business places they wish to visit.

Snowmobile Poker Rallies have
become very popular winter
events. There will be two in this
area in February. The first one to'
sponsored by the Walton
area sports club on February 5th.
The other one to be held by the
Optimist Club of Brussels on
February 17th. There are any
number' snowmobiles ShoWobiles buzzing
around these days so these rallies
should have no trouble attracting
entries,
