Huron County families which,
because of illnes or other,
problems, need the temporary
services of ihnmemaker, can now °
find liPlp through a new county '
Fami,IYi Care Agency. People
trained in both homemaking and
personal care are available
through the agency. These
homemakers can assume partial 1
or full responsibility for any
member of the family, for house-
hold management, and in general
for the maintenance of a stable
atmosphere in the home, The
Family Care Agency will match
the homemaker to the
individual's needs by providing
full-time, part-time, overnight or
live-in services as required.
The main office, which consists
of Mrs. Jean Young, adminis-
trator placement officer, Mrs.
Betty Duffin, bookkeeper
secretary and Mrs, Petronella
Gonie, development officer, is
located at 199 Josephine Street,
Wingh'am.,
Mrs. Gonie, the development
officer, is responsible for
informing the public of the aims
and, objectives of the agency and
develop the „financial support
needed. The agency is presently
being incorporated and registered
as a charitable organization under
the' Canada Income Tax Act.
About 40 Certified Visiting
Homemakers are interested in
providing these services -- care of
infant, child, youth, adult,
elderly, handicapped , and
chronically• ill person, meal
planning, preparation of
nourishing food, special diets,
marketing, light housekeeping,
laundry, ironing, necessary
mending, personal care including
bath, mouthcare, help with
eating, aid in and out of bed and
up and downstairs if needed,
simple bed-side care under
direction of nurse and/or .doctor,
physio occupational therapy
under direction of a therapist.
The home-maker's services are
sold to Home-care, an active
treatment program, which
provides Health Care to selected
patients according to their
individual n eeds. 0.H.I.P. covers
this charge. Social services and
Children and Family Services .
(Children's Aid) may help pay the
fees for home-making services.
'The Cancer Society may buy the
services for patients who wish to
be cared for in their own home.
Patients themselves, may hire a
homemaker on a private basis
too.
Mrs. Betty Cardno, Home Care
Administrator for the county, is
chairman of the Agency's board
of directors. She says the board is
quite excited about the agency
which aims to improve the quality
of.care in the home to residents of
Huron County and to raise the
standards of employment for
Family' Care Workers giving
homemaker service.
To help keep the costs of these
services to a minimum, the
Family Care Agency is presently i
looking for home-bound persons
ivho reside in either the Exeter Or ,
Clinton area to provide an
