Dr. Gordon Hazelwood of
Brussels was iri charge of the
Sunday morning service at
Bluevale United. Church. He read
the Christmas story from
Matthew and in his sermon asked
"Where does God fit 'into our
Christmas celebrations and the
nativity scene?". Christmas is
saying that God loves each one of
us, he noted. Mrs. Wendell
Stamper, U.C.W. president,.
placed the manger symbol on the
"Awareness Tree" to help the
congregation realize very
common places can become
important as a result of Jesus'
coming. She lit the fourth candle
as a reminder 'that the light of
Jesus makes ordinary human
beings truly alive.
Dr. HazelWood conducted the
service in the absence of the
regular minister, Rev. Wilena
'Brown, who was called to her
home because of the serious
illness of her mother. Mrs. Daniel.
Brown passed away December 13
with the funeral service held
Saturday at Truro, Nova Scotia.
Miss Brown's many friends
express their sympathy..
Parents and friends gathered
Sunday afternoon when the
Sunday School pupils presented
their Christmas program.
Recitations, piano solos, skits,
dialogues, step dancing and
carols were enjoyed with Sunday
School Superintendent, Harold
Johnston introducing the
numbers. Bags of candy were
distributed to the children. Lunch
was served after the program and
a. social time enjoyed.
The Women's Institute
members, 4-H leaders and guest
speaker Mrs. John Freeman
d• ined at Turnberry Tavern,
December 14. Following the
dinner President Mrs. Jim
Armstrong, opened the meeting
and the minutes, financial state-
ment and thank you cards were
read by secretary-treasurer, Mrs.
Mel Craig.
Training schools for the spring
4-H project will be held in Gorrie,
January 24-25 and Wingham
January 26-27.
Institute members were asked
what month they would like to
visit and entertain the residents
at Calendar Nursing Home. They
plan to go in April, they decided,
if this date suits the home,
Mrs. Bert Garniss and Mrs.
Alex MacTavish displayed their
quilt designs for the plowing
match but nothing definite was
decided about them.
Ross call was marked by the
exchange of , small gifts. Each
person went to the front of the
room and picked one of the
beautifully wrapped gifts from
under the Christmas tree. Mrs.
