recognize news stories, 'features on other things of
Interest in their communities. The day long session,
organized by Signal. Star editor -Shirley Keller,
concluded with a tour of the printing facilities at the
Goderich Signal Star, where many County weeklies,
including the Brussels Post, are printed.

Bob Shrier, president of the

same feeling.
"In some ways it sounds like
it's doing something for the town.
On the other hand it's a little
scary," Mrs. Hart said.
Mrs. Harvey Hood of R.R.2,
Brussels agreed somewhat with
the opinion of Mrs. Donald Bray
"I haven't really thought much
of it. It's a pretty small town for
it," she said.
People were considering both
the good and bad aspects of the
*penitentiary and Mrs.. Don
McNeil of Brussels was one of
those.
"In one way it would be good.
In another way it wouldn't. .1
have small kids. It likely
would bring jobs and yet with

criminals and everything. .," she
said,
Mrs. Doug Bothwell of R.R.2,
Brussels expressed, the same
fear.
"I don't think too much of it
myself (the penitentiary idea). I
really can't see as it would add
too much to the community. 'I
think we'd all live in the terror
that somebodynight break out of
it," she said.
Charles Harrison or R.R.2,
Brussels eased the situation with
his sense of humor.
"What would they want to do
that for?" he said when asked
about the possibility of bringing a
penitentiary to Brussels.
"It might be alright. They
should have something arOund
there to keep, the people
occupied, Mr. Harrison said.
Of course, there' s no guarantee
that a penitentiary will be built in
Brussels. Council has written to
Solicitor-General Francis, 'Fox
sending him a resume of the
village and what they • have to
offer,
Reeve of Brussels, Calvin
Krauter said that council is
serious about getting the peniten-
tiary but he added, "It doesn't
have to be a penitentiary. We're
just looking for something," he
said.
They applied for the peniten-
tiary in the ,hope of creating new
jobs in Brussels. The jobs would
be created because a penitentiary
would need a staff.
`You have ,to have staff for a
place that big. We, feel that ,vve
have room for a lot more people
here," Reeve Krauter said.
There has been no reply as, yet
from the solicitor general but
Reeve Krauter says, "They've
got to give us an answer. We're
part of Canada 'too." •

waiting to get their reply.
"You can only do so much, tell
them you're available," Reeve
Krauter said.

considered. One person said rides
to Wingtiam would be arranged at
a moderate fee for senior citizens
who may have appointments
there. A second note suggested
that the village should get into the
Christmas spirit this year by
having storekeepers dress up in
old fashioned costumes and
decorate their windoWs. Both
suggestions will be looked int9.
The village is closer to having
its drug store, it was r eported at
the meeting. A druggist has_
indicated his willingness 'to open
a store, but a pharmacist has not
yet been secured. It isn't known
how soon the drug store will be
ready to open.
