These were chairman Mickey. Vere's words at Monday night's meeting of the Huron-Perth County Roman Catholic School Board. Mr. Vere was referrineto a letter, which was sent to all the boards of education in the country, from the Periodical Distributors of Canada. The letter suggests that the issue of availability of porno- graphic material to children should be left in the hands of the courts and that the boards should not interfere. Director of Educa- tion,„ Bill Eckert said that the letter is a public relations docu- ment that is full of contradictions and accusations. The availability of pornography is an issue which has raised much discussi.ln at recent'• O.S.T.C. meeting ,;. • The HOron-Perth Separate School board also received a memorandum from the executi \ director of the Ontario School 1 isice's Council concern- ing pornography. The memora iduin says that "As educators we must be concerned at the pouring of millions of dollars into publications for marketing, which give a distorted impression of social acceptability • and normalcy of sexual deviation" and the availability of these publications to children. Trustee Arthur Haid said "It's not only magazi.nes and written material but movies and televi- sion also go uncensored and are available to children." Haid went on to say, "There's nothing that takes a hold of a child's mind like that T.V. set." Chairman Vere suggested that trustees write their local alder- men, members of the legislature, and member of parliament. "If they get enough letters they'll have to take action on the issue or we won't put them back According to Mr. Vere, letters from organizations which contain a list of names don't hold any punch anymore. "We must write the politicians _ individually expressing our ,concerns on the subject." The matter was referred to the c. next meeting of the board to allow and be ready to decide., what is to the trustees to consider the issue be done. One suggestion, to form a special committee to deal with the issue was —forwarded to the September 26 Meeting board, of the 0 aro mind good top 1`,1 that begh 001 To breal face body saga the syst( day. more have meal prod nighr mate Families enjoy Thres-hers' Reunion IA P Whatever your money problem Whatever you need in money service — a loan, a mortgage, high interest savings, estate executor- ship, personal estate management — bring your problem. to specialists who keep up to date on . swiftly changing financial problems.
