Featured along with the draw will be entertainment "Playhouse Personalities" which will focus on Metric power? - Had James Watt conducted a similar experiment using metric units he would have collected the following data. The horse would travel at a speed of 2 metres per ' second while pulling with a force of 273 newtons. The amount of work done per second would be 2 metres, times 373 newtons which is equal to 746 newton-metres per second or 746 joules per second. Since one watt is equal to one j oule per second, the amount of power developed by the horse is 746 watts. Using James Watt's „4 standard unit of power, this 746 watts would be equal to one horsepower. This value has been used for , many years in the electrical industry for motors and less frequently for appliances. In the future we can expect to see heat ,engines and other power units rated in watts or kilowatts, the same as our present electrical heaters. It is wise to develop the habit when using metric units of power of not trying to compare horse- power and watts, but to learn the concept of the value of a watt which is equal to one newton ' metre per second.
