Search pioneer's family
Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Leckie
of London were in Brussels on
Tuesday of last week hunting for
information for their family tree.
Mr. Leckie is the grandson of
John Leckie, a well-known
pioneer Of Brussels in _the early
days of' settlement, and the last
surviving member of the' Leckie
family. •
Robert .John Leckie is-the son of
the late Jonn Gardner Leckie,. He
never livbd here' but as a
yonegster lie spent his boyhood
sinumers in Brussels at. the home
of late George and Mrs. Samis
and has niany fond ni&immies. hF

Mr. Leckie is retired from the
Royal Canadian Navy and was
living in London at the time of the
Centennial. They reside at
1101 -- I I 0 Cherry Hill Crescent,
London.
They Were very pleased, while
here,- to fiiid in the files of 'the
Brussels Post, a lengthy account
of 'the life, . and death, of his
grandfather.

Mrs. Robert Kennedy of

during the vacation, were visitors
with Mr, and Mrs. Roy Kennedy.
Janice returned home to Ottawa
with her mother.
Mrs, Lyle. Brothers of Scar-
borough spent last week at her
home in Brussels,
Mr.. and. Mrs. Jack Backer of
Wheatley were visitors in
Brussels on Wednesday. Jack,
who is now retired, is a former
Brussels resident.
Mrs. Ethel Bone enjoyed, her
birthday ,on• Wednesday, August
31, at her home where she
received a number of cards and
gifts, Several called in to wish her
"Happy Birthday" and have a
piece of her birthday cake and a
cup of tea and spend a little time
with her.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Huether
accompanied the Hanover Tour
Group On a trip to the British
Isles. While there, they toured
England, Ireland, Scotland, and
Wales. Crops in, all countries are
very good but harvesting is
greatly behind scli,edule due to
the hQa,vy',sumnier rainfall.

Forty players took part in the
September I tournament heid at
the Brussels Lawn Bowling Club.
Visitors attended from
Mitchell, Exeter, Atwood, Brant-
ford and Walkerton. Due to the
heavy rainfall, one game only was
played with Mr. and, Mrs. Reg.

Bowling Association of Ontario,
made presentations to the
winners in order 'of placing:
'Skip, Reg. Robinson, Mitchell;
Eph. Snell, Atwood; John
McTavish, Exeter; Carl Heming-
way, Brussels; Ted Holman,
Atwood; Gerald Gibson,
Brussels.
The Brussels members
presented- Frank Carter with a
plaque making him 'an Honourary
Life Member of the Brussels
Lawn Bowling Club; in recogni-
tion of his unceasing efforts and
interest in the Club. He is
credited with founding the club in
1973.
Mr. Carter said that he was
happy to accept the honour but
without the help of many others
who worked 'diligently, the Club
would never have been formed.
The lady members served a
smorgasbord supper to 45 people.
Gerald Gibson, president,
thanked everyone for coming and
hoped that next year members
would have a fine day to play in
the Frank Carter Tournament.
