The arrest followed a hit and run incident on Friday, August 26 at approximately 11 p. m. when Mr. Mayman was walking west on. Huron County Road 3 about 1/2 mile east of Bayfield. He had been visiting with a neighbour in the immediate vicinity when he decided to walk home. As he was walking, an unknown eastbound car struck him and knocked him into the east ditch. His body was found there shortly after 7 a.m. on Saturday by his mother Margaret Mayman acid Thomas. Hill both of R.R.3, Bayfield. Dr. Ray Flowers.attended the scene and the investigation was carried out by Corporal Ray Primeau, Constable Gosse and Constable George Hiles of the Goderich OPP traffic division. COnstable Jim McLeod of the Seaforth OPP and Constable Lorne Carter of the criminal invetigation unit of the Goderich OPP also took part. At approximately 1 p.m. on SatUrday afternoon Mr. Marks was arrested. A 1972 green Oldsmobile was located, hidden in ...a cornfield at R.R.1, Seaforth in McKillOp" Township. An identification unit from Mount Forest is checking the car for evidence, Marks will appear in court in. Goderich on September 8. Brussels fire damage $3500 The village of Brussels had only one fire in 1976, with $3500. in damages, according to the Ontario Fire Marshall's report. Seaforth had two fires amounting to $8,800 damage, according to the Ontario Fire Marshal's report: Tuckersmith had two fires with damages set at $15,200, and McKillop had five fires amounting to $43,650 in damages. Seaforth, McKillop and Tuckersmith share fire ' area protection under the Fire Area Board, Clinton had six fires in 1976 with damages of $40,706. .A $40,000 fire in May accounted for most of Clinton's fire damage. Mitchell had eight fires costing $14,543, while Exeter had four fires with damages of only $510. The village ABayfield had one fire with $84 damages; Blyth six fires with $34,302 damage; Brussels one with $3,500 damage; Grey township six with. $202,179; Goderich 15 with $151,184 damage; Goderich township had nine fires with- $53,112; Hay township had seven with $229,529 damage; the village of Hensall had three fires with $166 damage; ,libbert Township had two fires with $230 damage; Howick had ,four ^ with $47,000 damage; Hullett had seven with $245,083 damage; Morris township had four with $78,000 damage; Stanley township had five with $38,651 damage; and Stephen township had seven with $141,672 damage. The town of Wingham escaped from any fire damage in 1976. The total fire loss for 1976 in Ontario amounted to $143,102,417. The loss over a five year average runs at $119,512,660.
