Top jersey cows from Huron
and Perth were up for sale
recently when the Perth-Huron
Jersey Club held their first ever
Harvest Sale at the Clinton
Community Park.
Bob Batty and Jack Macklin, of
Clinton, personally picked top
consignment cows and heifers
from club members. With the
auctioneering of 'John Joynt,
president' of the Ontario Jersey
Breeders from Ottawa and the
help from' Dick Lobb and Bill
Teasdale, the field man from the
Ontario Jersey Association in
Guelph, the sale produced top

Arthritis isn't just one disease.,
It's a word used to describe about
100 different diseases that affect
one and one-half million
Canadians. Some types of
arthritis are serious, some are
not. The Arthritis Society reminds
you that early diagnosis and
treatment can prevent disability

aspect, it is suggested.
"It is clear that conservation
aid solar programs are not only
more beneficial on environmental
grounds, but also on an
employment generating basis.
Indeed this is supported by
day to Lionel McEwan from
Caledonia for a price of, $1,975.
Bob Batty noted that heifer calves
were bringing in $1,100;
yearlings jwere going for $1,250
and cows from $1,500 to the top
price of $1,975.
The - first 20 cows averaged
$1,050 and over all, the 34 head
which were sold averaged $950
per cow.
A crowd of about 150 attended
.the sale which was considered to
be a success by those involved. It
is hoped that the sales will be
continued next year.
According to Mr ,. Batty, future
sales will likely 'be held at the
Clinnton Community Park,
because of the perfect
accommodations and the central
location.

would never have had the sale,"
noted Batty .
Considerable help was also
given by the Van Egmond
Foundation from Seaforth who
supplied, a refreshment booth
through the help of several ladies.
Henry Baker's farm Centre
supplied 'the Purina Food for the
animals, .and De Laval Milking
Equipment, through their local
agent supplied milking outfits.
Although the harvesting season
may have ' distracted possible
buyers, Batty hopes to hold next
year's show later in the fall and
says, "I expect it will ..be three
times as big."
'Mr. Batty noted that the sale
was a total club effort and with
help with the Jersey. office in
Guelph, promnoted the dairy
