Riders of the Maitland Dirt
Riders Club have been practising
hard in recent weeks in anticipa-
tion of their two upcoming race
legion Ladies
Picnic success
The Legion Ladies Auxiliary ,
held a picnic in the Lions Park
Wednesday afternoon.
The afternoon was spent
playing games and contests with
oanyeners Barb Knight and Kay
Ducan in charge. Many prizes
were won.
The older members:, being the
guests of honoro were each
presented with' a gift.
The afternoon ended with a
delicious smorgasbord supper.
Well this is the week you have
'been waiting for!! Finally, the
archrivals of yesteryear will come
together to do mortal combat!
(Well at least a few l'aughS)
President Shaw says that the
Jamestown lads are keen arid
ready, All their injuries. have
mended and they have a good
supply of liniment, bandages, ice
packs, stretchers. : and
ambulances, etc. As matter of
fact, I saw John "Tiger` Turvey
parking his car in the usual spot
at the park on Tuesday night, he
was that eager.
From the Brussels camp, it
seems that all is in readiness, too.
There was one comment directed
my way, in which, Brian "Iron
arm" Rutledge was caught
boasting. "I can throw twice as
fast as "Leapin".. Louie, , my
fastball can break 2 plys of
Delsey."
Make sure to 'turn out for this
1st Annual Grudge Match,.
Saturday, August 13 at 7:30 p.m.
and again Sunday, August 14,
dates Aug. 13 .4 14 at their.
Walton track.
At a recent meeting track
preparation was discussed. Hank
Pardis of Brussels, the club's
president, thought dust could be
a problem, With the use of an
irrigation system supplied by
Chris Lee of Walton and a bulk
watering tank, it was agreed that
the dust could be kept down for a
good race for racers and
spectators,
The Dirt Riders said they would
like to see more young riders-
come out to the track and ride
rather than riding on public and
private land.
The Brussels Leo Club will
redeive $300 for the Arena Fund
for supplying flagmen, .The
Walton Recreation Club will be
raising money with a concession
2:00 p.m.,
, 'After all the batting and base
running, and the dust has settled,
the real winner this weekend will
be the Brussels Community
Centre Fund. Admission will
.be $1.00 for 'adults.
