uron crops still need rain
facing a "double barreled
problem" this year. The lack of
rainfall has severely cut potential
yields in some areas, particularly
on the lighter soils, and the price
is low.
The dry weather early i the
spring caused spotty germination
with most of the corn crop making
the fields very uneven. "It will be
a very interesting situation at
harvest time," Mr. Pullen said.
The cereal crop is "better than
anybody expected". The early
seeded oats and barley are having
high yields while the wheat crop
is slightly below average.
"We cursed the heavy snowfall
all winter, but we can praise it
now. The high level of moistsure
in the soil has really helped," the
Huron agriculture representative
said.
The white bean crop had an
even germination and the outlook
is good. Humidity could cause a
problem though by bringing on

Despite widespread showers
across the County on the weekend
the central part of Huron County
is still badly in need of rain,
according to agrictilture repre-
sentative Don Pullen. •
"The rain will do a lot of good
but more is needed," he said
Tuesday. The • north and south
ends of the County are in
relatively good shape.
"The dry weather is starting to
show its effeCts," he said.
Although the quality of the hay
harvest has been good, there has
been little to harvest because of
the dry weather. Farmers in
some areas have had their yields
cut in half Mr. Pullen said.
