Institute picnic
Guests were present from
Blyth, Londesboro and Seaforth
Institutes for the July meeting of
the Walton Women's Instsitute
on Wednesday afternoon, July
It was held in the form of a
picnic(it was a hot day but ideal
to be held out on the lawn of a
member, Mrs. Gerald Watson.
Mrs. Bill Humphries, the,
President, gave a warm welcome
to all those present, opening with
a poem "A Farmers Wife's
Prayer". The- opening ode was
sung •and Mary Stewart Collect
repeated in unison. Ken•
McDonald read minutes of June
meeting.
It was to be left with
Stewart Humphries as 4-H
co-ordinator to look into leaders
for the fall project, "Featuring
Fruit".

reception and dance on Friday
evening, July 15 at Family
, Paradise to honour the recent.
newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Ross
Mitchell (nee Julie Ann Fairless).
Ian Wilbee and his orchestra
supplied music for dancing. Prior
to lunch the happy young couple
were called to the platform when
an address of congratulations and
best wishes from their relatives,
friends and_ neighbors was read
by Bill Shortreed.
Murray Houston presented a
pprse of money. Ross, and Julie
both expressed their thanks in a
few well chosen words.

Mr. and Mrs. Torrance Dundas
have arrived home from a two
week visit with friends in Haney,
Burnaby and Vancouver, B.C. On
their return trip they stopped off
inCnlfgary, Alta for a couple of days,
where they attended the' Calgary
Stampede.
Mr. and Mr. Jerry Achilles and
Debbie of Fergus visited on the
weekend at the home of ,Mr. and
Mrs. Roily Achilles, also visiting
Mrs. Kathy Achilles' and family.
Mr. and Mr. Herb Kirkby and
boys of Woodstock spent 'Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kirkby ,
also calling on Mrs. Broadfoot on
the occasion of her 90th Birthday.
Mrs. Phyllis Dunk has sold her
home recently to John Gillis. She
is having an open house on
. Wednesday. July 27th before she
leaves this community after her
sale on Thursday evening Aug. 4. '
Mrs. Irene McCall and Mrs.
Eleanor Liphard were the
delegates from the Walton W.I.
who attended the 80th
anniversary .celebrations of the
Women's Institute at Bingeman
Park, Kitchener on Wednesday,
July 13th. Mrs. Marjory
Humphries, President of the
Walton Institute also attended.

Mrs. Humphries gave a report
of the 80th anniversary
celebrations she had attended at
Bingeman 'Park in Kitchener on
July 13. The hall is being repaired
and at present is being painted on
the outside. The regular
collection , and pennies ' for
friendship was taken.'
There will be an August
meeting with a speaker from the
Approximately 75 friends,
neighbors and relatives called on
Sunday, July 17th to congratulate
Mrs. Jean Broadfoot on the
occasion of her 90th birthday at
her home in Walton.
Out of town guests were Mr.
and Mrs. Archie 'Hoggart,
London; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott,
London; Mrs. Cliff Britton,
Hensall arid Mrs. Jean Berry,
Milton; Mrs. Fe'rn Patterson,
Seaforth and Miss Amy Love,
Toronto.
On Sunday Mrs. Broadfoot had
long distance calls from her
brother, Dan Love, New
Westminster, B.C.; Howard
Marshall, Vancouver; a niece,
Mrs Doris Razzo, 'New West-
minster, B.C.; sister, Mrs. Addie
Kerley, Toronto; a niece, Mrs.
Natural Resources at Wingharn
who wil be showing slides as well.
The fun part of the meeting was
turned over to Mrs. Nelson Marks
and Mrs. Lavern Godkin who
looked after the sports for the
children arid helped Mrs. G.
Watson with entertainment for
the guests and Walton members.
Many prizks were given out.
Institute Grace preceded a
Muriel Allison, London and a
niece, Mrs. Mildred Jepson,
Brantford.
Mrs. Broadfoot received many'
lovely flower's and gifts and some
97 birthday cards.
Neighbors Jooked after
preparing and serving the
birthday cake and tea during the,
afternoon. •
On Saturday a birthday dinner
was given in Mrs. :BroacIfoot's,
honour with the following
relatives present, Mrs. William
Farquarson and her mother Mrs.
Glutenberger from London; Mr.
Ivy Henderson, Seaforth; Mrs.
Annie 'Angel, Cranbrook; Mrs.
Ethel Long, Brussels; Mrs. Fern
Patterson, Seaforth and' Miss
Amy Love, Toronto.
