Those who live in Brussels
doii't often think of the village's
name as anything special. That's
not true of the rest of Canada,
however.
Brussels was one of three area
villages, featured in a recent
photo story in Weekend
Magazine, because their names
are also the names of famous
European cities.

distributed around the country
with Saturday newspapers, and in
this area with the, Toronto Globe:

around Canada.
The Brussels photo was a full
front view in colour of the
Brussels 5cent to $1 store. Other
local photos were of the Main
Street of Dublin and of Zurich.
The other "famous" towns and
villages included London, Paris,
Athens and Vienna, Ontario,
Stockholm, Saskatchewan and
Cannes, Nova Scotia. "

Vandals are at it again in our
village. The beautiful display of
petunias, in the flower box at the
side of the Hackbart store, that
were so lovely
yesterday (Monday) were
ruthlessly uprooted and strewn
around on the ground this
morning. The flowers that were
provided by the Horticultural.
Society to beautify our village
Were cared for by theHackbarts.
What good did 'it do those
responsible? It certainly showed
they lack respect for the property
of others. It is sad to think that
some young people have the kind
dui) bringing that does not curb
such behaviour. This was riot the
only act of vandalism Monday
night. If the two were done by the
same persons we do not know:
Seine boys apparently wanted a
drink of water from the outside
tap at the Hackbart Store. The \vatet had been shut off fttilt the

be
olnetliirig seriously wrong with
young people who do such things.

Parade there. We bet there 'was
no smarter arrayed band in the
parade. Hoot Mon! those guys
and gals of ours do look fine in
their colourful swinging kilts.
Their music makes for good

If we did not realize it before
some of us know now how much
we use, and depend on hydro
power. All those handy electrical
gadgets that make meal time
preparations and clean up, so
much easier, electric stove,
kettle, hot water heater, frig, etc,
etc, etc. Sunday electricity was
cut off in the north section of the
village from approximately 9 a.m.
until 4 p,m, If we had not been
warned about the cut off,
necessary for repairs, some of us
would have had a scant noon
lunch with not even a. hot drink:
Perhaps this will serve to impress
on us the need of conservation of
electrical power.
