Drop impost fee
In arena area

drop their impost fee for lots in
the new arena area because that

Monday night's meeting.
"One party who owned
property on the road said if there
was an impost fee, there wouldn't
be any road. He would fence his
section off and reseed it. For that
purpose it was either cut off the
, impost fee or cut off the road,"
Reeve Cal Krauter told council.
Council declined to n ame the
:objector: to the impoSt fee.
Reeve Krauter made his
'comments in response to a
delegation by former reeve, Jack
McCutcheon, and former
councillor, Hank Ten Pas. Mr.
McCutcheon criticized council for
dropping the impost fee on the
lots along the arena road.
"If someone challenges the
wording of .a law they can often
beat it, but council shouldn't
challenge council's own policy,"
he said.
The decision to drop the impost
fee on the arena road lots was
taken, at a special meeting on
June 2 at which the press was not
present.
Mr. McCutcheon said the
decision to waive the impost
bylaw cost the village over
$21,000.
"The new lots will be a
considerable amount and who
gets the money for, developing
them, not the Village," he said.

"I am positivbe I won't change
my mind," Mr. Stretton said. "I
appreciate your thoughts trying -to
make me reconsider, but I would
prefer to get the whole thing off
my-Nfld."
Councillors Pletch and Jacobs
voted against the motion by
COuncillor George Jutzi to accept
Mr. Stretton's resignation "with.
on Mr. Stretton and it is hoped
that it will riot be too -Much of a
strain for him. This is all the more
reason for council to settle down,
forget all petty bickering, put
aside personal animosity, and get
down to the business of the
people of Brussels as they were
expected to do when they took
office.

Canada Day did net make
'much of an impact in 13russelS.
Few flags were flying and no
special events were planned, The
only noticeable excitement was
created by a broken wilier main at
the corner of Thrtiherry and
Queen Streets; The break sent
water shooting up through the
surface of the street several
places on Friday Morning: To find
and repair the trouble required
the shutting off of the . water
supply for some tithe: Residents
of the area affected Were without.

a drain Was torn up in hunting for
the source of the first problem,

noon Monday when final repairs
were completed.
Friends, teachers and pupils
attended a retirement party for
Mrs. E. McNair, a teacher at
Grey Central School • on
Wednesday, June 29th.
Mrs, McNair taught grade one
in Grey Central at Ethel for 27 out
of 28 years of her teaching career.
Now she plans to travel and
practise the many hobbies that
she didn't have tithe for when she
taught,
Mr's. McNair was born in
Wales but received her education
in Listowel. She then attended
Hamilton Normal School 1933
34. Her first year of teaching was
at Tilbury. The next year: she
taught in the Senior Room at
Cranbrook, East Wawanosh, No.
6 Grey, No. 10 Grey and lastof all
Grey Central. School at Ethel. 27
of the 28 years of her teaching
career were in Huron County.
She has one daughter (Myra)'
Mrs. Wm. H enry of Goderich
employee of„-the Huron County
Health Unit. Her husband Stuart
predeceased her several years
ago,
While in Grey Central she
taught the grade one class. M any
of these former students will
remember the excellent teaching,
guidance and loving care that was
