Brus s els Grade .2 visits woods
Our Trip to the Woods
(By Donna Johnston)
All we grade 2 children went to
the woods. We saw many
wonderful things, 1 got some
yellow and purple violets and
rhubarb.and fungus and two little
maple trees and an apple
blossom and other plants.
I saw red and black ants and
some falling down trees and
Karla King found a bunny tail and
I found an old man's beard and
trillims. I had a good time.
(By Jackie McCutcheon)
When the grade 2 class of
Brussels Public School and their
teacher, Mrs. Mary Huether and I
went to the woods, I got a whole
lot of stuff. 1 got a tiny maple tree
and some flowers and fern and
some fungus and some bark and a
teasel head.
And I saw the creek and
tii'liums and I saw red ants and I
saw groundhogs' holes. And I
saw an appleblossom. And I saw a
toad.
There were a lot of trees cut
down. There were a lot of fences
to climb. And Jeff fell into a hole.
On, the way back the creek looked
pretty.
I liked going to the woods.
Grade 2 B.P.S. Visits Wingham
(By Danny Webster)
I got out of the bus and I went
to the fire hall. He showed the fire
hose and showed the fire axe and
the foam hose and the pail of
foam and old fire truck. The year
of the old fire truck is 1937 and
the old fire coats and hats.
At the police station, the police
were too busy working. One
policeman showed his light in his
car and he had a CB in his car and
a butWon on his CB to put the
sirens on to pull people over to
the side of the road that were over
the speed limit of 50. They get a
fine.
I got off the bus and went into
the hospital and went on to the
first floor and went up to the
second floor. I saw the young and
old people in their beds and went

The Grade 7's of B.P.S. would
like to thank all those who
donated items to their rummage
sale June 11. They would also like
to thank Ken Webster, President
of the B. B.A. for helping with the
advertisements and providing the
building for the sale and Mrs.
McArter for the use of her truck
to the basement and it was hot
down there and I went into the
kitchen and got a cookie and got
my hand waxed. Then we went
home. It was a fun day.
(By Charlene Stephenson)
We started out for Wingham
around 11:30 on June 16, 1977.
We went to the fire station first.
Mr. D. Crothers showed us
around. We saw four fire trucks.
One red one that went first in all
fires and then a yellow truck with
800 to 900 gallons of water.
We saw where they dried the
hoses but if they didn't dry them.
they would get mouldy and have
holes in them. We saw the old fire
truck that had no motor and had
to have horses pull it. It had a
hose reel. In the winter they
changed it onto gliders.
We saw a red one that was their
first fire truck that ran by itself.
We went to the attic and saw their
school. We saw pictures of some
of the old fire men. This is where
they study in the winter. It was
fun up there.
We went downstairs and
outside and before we went we
got to hear the old fire truck start
up.and then the siren. It sounded
funny.
We went to the police station
and saw what was in the car. We
couldn't see inside. the building
because they were too busy. But
we did get to hear the siren. Then
we went to the dairy and got some
treats.
And then we went to the
Hospital and saw the basement
first. We saw the place where
they washed and dried the
hospital sheets and other things.
We saw the linen room and the
boiler room. We saw the nursery
and saw the kitchen and the place
where they stored the food and
we also saw other departments.
We went back to the school and
went home. It had been a fun day.
I'd like to say special thanks to
Mr. Stewart Steiss, our bus driver
who helped Mrs. Mary Huether
look after us.

[By Cindy McNeill
On June 16, the grade 2 class of
Brussels Public School and I went
to. Wingham for a trip, I had fun,
First we went to the fire hall. I
told Mr. D. Crothers that my
uncle. Dave Hastings was a
fireman. And he said that he was
a good looking giant. When I got
home I told my mom that he
wasn't talking about the same
man.
I got 9 .stickers at the police
station and the most fun was the
hospital. We got to see the
ambulance and they had two of
them because one *as coming in,
Oh, I' forgot to tell you that in
the hospital 'we saw some big
pails of 'salt and we got to take
some home. The salt is for
making soft water.
We saw the nursery. There
were two babies in it.. They were
both girls, Near the first of the
trip we bought an ice cream cone,
And then we went back to the
school and went home.
I told my mom all about it, it
was fun.
1 would like to say a special
thanks to Mr. Dave Crothers, the
Wingham Fire chief, the sire
guide who took us around the
hospital and Mr. Stewart Steiss,
our bus driver who helped
teacher, Mrs. Mary Huether look
after us.
