16—THE BRUSSELS POST, JUNE 15, 1.977
McKillo coy le marks 50th anniversary
Many people who have lived a
long time will tell you° life was
mirebetter when they were
-young. But Edna and Russell
Bolton of McKillop Township,
who will celebrate their 50th
Wedding Anniversary on June
13, are exceptions.
Both have seen many changes
in the years since they were
married at the McKillop United
Church manse in 1927 and most
were for the better they feel.
"I think things are better
today," Mr. Bolton said. "Work
is done by machine instead of
hard hand 'labour and young
people today have a better chance
to get an education than we had."

Mr. and Mrs. Bolton are both
natives of McKillop Township
and have farmed near Winthrop.
since they were first married.
They have two sons - Arthur and
Malcolm.
Arthur is now farming on the
"home farm" and his brother is
the agriculture representative for
Bruce County and lives in
Walkerton.
When the Bolton's started
farming 100 acres was the
standard farm and virtually all the
work was done with horses.
"There were a lot more people
in the area then and you
depended.on your neighbour a lot
more," Mr. Bolton said.
Mrs, Bolton clearly remembers
the large threshing gangs of 14 or
15 men who would move in the
night before they started work.
"The meals they ate weren't light
meals and you couldn't run tothe
corner store," she said. "The
pace was fast enough then, but it
was different. There wasn't as
much tension."
The depression hit not long
after they were married. "They
were hard times. There was no
money to do anything and then
the war came and there was
money to do everything,' mr.
Bolton said. "The depressio
made us take care of the pennies
It made 'us pretty close tyiIl
money for the rest of our life,'"
