The Huron West District
Women's Institute decided to
again sponsor a foster child.

The 77th annual meeting was
conducted by Mrs. Ivan
Wightman who gave a report of
her, years work and thanked
everyone for the cooperation she

president.

Buchanan, secretary-treasurer,
read the minutes and 'corres-
pondence.
Mrs. Loralee Marshall ratified
the district directors.
In the morning the Goderich
Twp, Branch entertained with
their rendition of "The Quilting
Party", and during the afternoon
Mrs,Radford played a piano
selection.
A sing-song was conducted by
Auburn W.I. Mrs. William
Porter, Provincial Board Director'
gave a report of Provincial Boar d
meetings and announced that.
Miss Molly McGhee is replacing
Miss Helen McKercher as
director of Home Econdmies
Branch, Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food .
• The F.yv.L O. fee is to be raised
to $1.00 next year so it was
recommended that the fee per
branch member be $1.00 next
April.
The week of June 6 - 10 is
visitors week for the W.I. at the
erland Lee Home. Quilt blocks
sent in by the branches will be on
sale for $1.00 each. An appeal is
being made to all branches across
Ontario for a donation towards
the Erland Lee Foundation Fund
to be raised next year.
The 80th Anniversary of W.I.
will be celebrated at Bingerman
Park, Kitchener, July 13. There
will be a hospitality booth• at the
Royal Winter Fair again and the
W.I. is responsible for
furnishings for the W.I.11 all at
Milton.
There are some by-law changes
to be made in the members
handbook and members are asked
tolook for these in next Home and
Country, and then insert them in
the* proper' place in their
handbook.
Mrs. Porter also stressed the
importance of the U.N.E.C.O.
Gift coupon #569 which is used for
training women in their own
country.
The Dungannon Branch had a
splendid showing of crafts, quilts
and etc.
Mrs, Loralee Marshall, Home
Economist for Huron Count)
spoke on the work of the
eighty- nine 4-H Homemaking
Clubs in Huron and said it was a
great honor for all those involved
in 4-H work from the club
member to the leaders and
parents. She stated that "4-H
Homemaking Clubs are 64 years
old still growing and achieving.
The fall project will be
"Featuring Fruit' The seminar
program for next winter will be
"Personalize Your Pattern"; and
should prove very interesting.
During the dinner hour Rev.
Oestreicher , Minister of 'Wesley
Willis United Church spoke
briefly, Mrs.. L. Coffyn, President
of London' area brought
greetings, Mrs, J. Freeman of
Huron East and Mrs. R. WestcOtt
of Huron South each brought
greetings.
The guest speaker was Mtti
Harold astng, of Neustadt who
is Provincial Convener of 'Family
and Consumer Affairs. She is a
very enthusiastic W.I. member
and stressed that all branch level
conveners must be dependable,
ready to "carry the load".
"The success of .all levels of
conveners depends on the branch
conveners and there are 6750
branch conveners in Ontario. Her
address was most informative and
appreciated by the audience.
The memorial service was
conducted by Mrs. Ross Higgins,
Mrs. James Hunter and Mrs.
Leonard James of the Belgrave
Branch. Thirteen members in
Huron West have passed on to
higher service since last District
Annual.
Pennies for Friendship were
collected by the Wingham Branch
with 'Mrs. Uldene McKenzie in
Mr. and Mrs. William Coultes
and Janice, Doreen Taylor, Gary
Hopper all attended the Umpire
School in Hanover on Sunday
afternoon and all received their
cards.
Mr. and Mrs. William Nahrang
of Rostock, Mrs. Glen Brindley
and Susan of Dungannon were
Sunday visitors with their parents

Mrs. Jack Todd of Goderich
visited on Monday with her
parents Mr. and Mrs. William
Gow.
We are sorry to hear that Mrs.
William Gow is a patient in the
Wingham and. District Hosptal.
We wish her a speedy recovery.
A picnic and enjoyed by 16
members and one ' visitor on
Sunday morning by the
Messengers of Knox United
Church, Belgrave. Several games
were played before and after,
lunch under the leadership of
Alison Roberts, Mrs. Murray
Vincent, Mrs. Robert Taylor, and
Mrs. Jack Higgins.
There were 7 members who
had perfect attendance during the

host the 1978 District Annual and-

her two years of service as
