Antique cars
swamp Brussels
Antique cars from all over
started to come to Brussels,
Friday, June 10 to join in on the
flea market weekend.
Saturday morning brought
sunshine and over .1000 people to
buy antique cars and parts from
over 55 venders who had brought
their goodies to trade or sell.
At 1:30 Carl Graber from Canis
Auto Body presented a model air
show with a P-51 Mustang and a
13earcat, much -to the crowd's
delight.
At 2 p.m. a National Meeting
was held in the library and lunch
was supplied by the ladies of the
Maitland Valley Region, hosted
by lunch convener .Barb Watts.
Jim Armstrong invited all
antique cars to his airport to' see'
some antique airplanes. A
Harvard WW 11 trainer plane
flew in from Woodstock and put
on a show. Also two Tiger
Moths flew in and were on
display for the crowd.
An after supper tour of
downtown. Brussels, headed by
Murray Kelfington with Max
Watts model A, was enjoyed by
some of the antique cars. Then it
was back to the fairgrounds to a
dance and a barbeque of
hamburgs, hot dogs, coffee and
pop,
Sunday morning brought rain
for breakfast, cooked -by Max
Watts, Wayne Lowe, Murray
Lowe, Jack Lowe, Barb Watts and
Susan McNeil. Over 250 people
were fed ham, eggs, toast and
coffee.
A tour of Baintons Old Mill,
Blyth was then ventured on by
Charlie Hudson, Listowel and
George Brown, Gorrie. Many cars
took the tour to Blyth. They then
brought the sunshine back to
Brussels.
More selling of parts and cars
took place on Sunday.
At 1:30, Carl Graber, with the
aid of Howard. Martin, Royce
Bauer, Brussels and Rudi Mayer,

Liberal Murray Gaunt swept
the riding of Huron Bruce
Thursday winning in every
munipality except his main
opponent's home town of
Kincardine.
Mr. Gaunt, who has
represented the riding at Queen's
Park for 15 years, won by nearly
10.000 votes over Progressive
Conservative candidate Sam
MacGregor. The final standings
were Gaunt 17356, MacGregor
7523 and NDP Dave Zyluk 1754.
In Brussels Gaunt more than
doubled MacGregor's total with
342 votes to 152. In Grey
township the Liberal environment
critic swamped his . opponents
with 571 votes to 150 for
MacGregor and V for Zyluk. In
Morris'township Gaunt polled .5.64
votes, MacGregor 168' and Zyluk
31. .
Gaunt lost in Kincardine by 65
votes with a total of 1025 to
MacGregor's 1090.
Mr. Gaunt 42, won the 1975
election by a 10,000 vote majority
over Conservative Bill Walden
and. NDP David Milne. In that
election he won in every town and
every municipality.
There was a 73 per cent turnout
with 26,694 people voting out of a
possible 35.985.
