HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Brussels Post, 1977-06-08, Page 5PROCLAMATION Whereas many students are in need of summer employment, and whereas the present and future welfare of our community depends upon -the constructive utilization of the energies of our young people, the week of June 13 to 18 is proclaimed "HIRE A STUDENT WEEK" in Brussels. All members of the community are called upon to assist our young citizens in their search for useful summer activities, and to offer employment to students whenever possible during the summer months. After testing a variety of alternatives, research results showed epoxy, liquid urethane resin and butyl elastomer coatings, effectively prevented acidic silage juices from corroding conrete silos. The coatings, which are applied to the inside of the silo, prevent lactic and 'acetic acid.es present in: silage from penetrating the Portland 'cement concrete. Dr. Jofriet recommends that producers who install new silos coat at least the bottom third of the silo, to prevent preMature corrosion. County will not be paying for any of the work to be undertaken but had been asked for their approval because they are still the owners of the structure. Property Committee Chairman John Jewitt told the Meeting that representatives of the Historic, Jail. Board met with the Committee to discuss the study and report prepared by Nick Hill, entitled "A Plan for Restoration." That report was completed for the Jail Board at a cost of $2,000, to enable a comprehensive and concerted .approach to the Province and other charities for funds to complete the restoration. Only the exterior renovation phase has been given the go-ahead. Interior restorations valued at $99,765, and a theatre complex valued at $388,500 were "away in the future if ever," according. to Bayfield Reeve Ed Oddleifson who is also the Jail Board secretary.
