Resigned
touncil
members
back in
Brussels council is back in
full strength following a special
meeting" Friday night. The
meeting saw the re-appointment
• of councillors Tom Pletch and
Malcolm Jacobs to council. The
two had resigned to protest the
rehiring of Clerk Bill King May
16. •
The move to re-appoint the
men came after discussions
between Reeve Cal Krauter and
remaining' councillors Frank
Stretton and George Jutzi.
Council was divided about the
proper' course of action to follow.
Reeve Krauter said file people
he had talked 'to felt council
should call by-elections to fill the
vacancies left by the 'resignations.
Councillor Frank Stietton
disagreed, saying the people he
had talked to .did not want an
election , and felt council Should
get on with the business at hand.
Reeve Krauter countered that
there are many things waiting to
be done, among them the setting
of this year's budget. he felt a
whole .councit was needed to
conduct village business.
Reeve Krauter said both Mr.
Pletch and. Mr. Jacobs felt they
had acted too hastily in resigning
and asked Clerk King' to read
letters from the two men.Both..
men said in the leters that if
re-appointed they would accept,
and would work with council Tor
the remainder of their elected
terms.
Reeve Krauter said the legality
of rescinding the earlier motion
accepting the men's resignations
or or re-appointing' them by
council motion had been checked
with the village's solicitors, and
the solicitors felt a re-appoint-
ment motion would be the best
course of action. Council voted
unanimously to re-appoint the ,
men.
The two will likely be sworn in
May 31, when. council hold's a
special meeting to set this year's
budget.
