Four students who participated
in the Brussels public speaking
contest were guests when the
Resolutions meeting of . the
Women's Institute was held atl
the home of Mrs. Bill. Peacock.
Resolutions convener Mrs.
James C. Johnston introduced the
students, Jackie Robertson who
spoke on "The 4-H Club Pledge
and. Motto", Valerie Johnston
whose topic was "Education",
Greg Campbell who offered the
invitation, "Let's Play Detective"
and Karen Johnston speaking on
"What Canadian Province Would
Yolu Like to Live In?"
President Mrs. Jim Armstrong
opened the meeting with a poem,
"Spring Promise" followed by
the Opening Ode and Mary
Stewart Collect. She then
welcomed the 29 ladies and 13
children.
The new secretary-treasurer
Mrs. Mel Craig, read the minutes
financial statement, correspon-
dence and thank-you notes.
Several upcoming events were
announced. A spring tea will be
held at Huronview orl,Pane 1 from
two until four o'clock. Summary
Day for those who took the short
course on quilting will be held
May 25 in St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church, Wingham,
from 10 a.m. until noon. The W.I.
members will entertain the
residents at Callander Nursing
Home, Brussels, on May 30 and
at Huronview in mid-June. A
committee was named to . be in
charge of the Grade 8 graduation
banquet June 23 at Turnberry
Central School. The date for the
July meeting has been changed to
July 6 at the home of Mrs. Jack
Nicholson. A chartered bus will
•go to Kitchener on July 13 for
those wishing to attend the 80th
anniversary celebration of the
Women's Institute,
Mrs. Peacock , a voting
delegate, outlilnecl the meeting of
the District Annual at Moncrieff.
There will be a meeting of the
historical society at Wroxeter on
May 30.
The members were fav .ored
with a piano solo by Donna
Johnston. Roll call was ways
"progress has affected our
lives". Mrs. Donald Strut played
for a singsong and Mrs. Carl
Johnston played .a medley of
tunes.
Salad plates were served by the
hostess, Mrs. Graham Campbell,
Mrs. Harry Elliott, and Mrs.
Robert Fraser to bring the
meeting to a close.
Mrs. Bert Garniss will be
hosiess for the June 8 meeting at
two o'clock. Roll call will be "a
place in Huron County and
derivation of its name."
Personal
Mrs. Jack Glousher left on
Tuesday to spend three weeks
with her daug hter, Mrs. Jim
Smart, Mr. Smart, Crystal and
their baby daughter in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan.
The sacrament of baptism was
observed recently at the United
Church for Rebecca Lynn,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce
Corrigan and Robert Neil, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Neil Gowing..
All visitors were welcomed,
especially members of the
GoWing and Corrigan families.
The baptism of Robert Gowing
was on behalf of Rev. .Er;ic
Ledrew of Brussels and was held
here so all the visiting Gowings
could share in the service for both
new members of their family.
The Bible study group will hold
their final study meeting on
Thursday night at Whitechurch.
Rev. Wayne Baswick conducted
communion service in the
Presbyterian Church, Sunday
when four new members joi, ned
profession of faith. They were
Melody Brewer, Kathy Snell,
Sherry-Ann Robertson and Mary-
Ann Nicholson. A social time will
be enjoyed after the service nem
week with everyone bringiiii,
enough lunch for their farnily,

met Haugh's honoured
on 401" anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Fraser Haugh of
Bluevale celebrated their 40th
wedding anniversary on May 8
with a family gathering at their
home.
An anniversary cake, decorated
with blue and yellow roses was
made by Mr. and Mrs. Haugh's
daughter, Mrs. Carman Nixon of
London.She was assisted by her
three sisters,Mrs. Jim (Isobel)
Darling, Belmore, Mrs. Arnold
(Joyce) Noble, Britton and Mrs.
Mike(Alberta) Newton,
Wroxeter.
31 guests attended the
afternoon celebration, Mr. and
Mrs. Haugh also received a photo
album.

Mrs. Elmer Danby returned
home last Wednesday after
spending two weeks at the home
