Walton unit studies Indians

Mrs. Herb Traviss opened the
May meeting of the Walton Unit
with a reading, "What do we
mean when we say the word
God?"
Mrs. Edna Hackwell read the
scripture from several passages
in the Bible. Mrs. Traviss read
the 23rd Psalm followed by
comments.
a Prayer was offered by Mrs.
Hackwell. Mrs. Ray Huether was
pianist for hymn "Tell me the
stories of Jesus" closing the
devotion.
Mrs. Gerald Watson gave the
topic on "A dream come true",
about Mission work of the Indians
at Norway house, 350 miles north
of Lake Winnipeg in Manitoba.
The Indians communities are
served by the United Church.
They are accessible only by aif or
boat in summer and by air or over
frozen lakes and highways in
winter.
The Indians share, their
learning with other elders who
needed instruction in Cree and
Rebekahs
successful
A very successful Spring Fair
and tea was held recently in the
Lodge Hall, Officers and
members of Morning Star
Rebekahs thanked all who
attended, sent articles to sell or
helped in any way.
Another Fair will be held in
November. The draw prizes were
won by Mrs. Lynn Rower, Sis.
Barbara McCutcheon and Sis.
Sharon Freeman.
At the regular meeting May 10
with Sis. Dorothea Ritchie
presiding, the charter was
reverently draped in memory of
three Assembly Officers. Sis.
Caroline Cutler, P.P., Sis. Sue
Leacock, P.P., Bro. Verner
P. G. M.
Church service this year will be
held in the Brussels United
Church, Sunday, May 19th at the
morning service.
Best wishes go to members
who are in Wingham and District
Hospital, Sis. Jessie Little and
Sis. Pearl Kokesch.
Thanks to members , the tea
towel shower was a real success
and Rebekahs now have an ample
Sanheux and who gathered in one
community each summer.,
Mrs. Watson also read an
article from the Observer about
Bill. Eliason, pilot-missionary
mechanic of the North Island Air
Ministry.
Mrs. Ron Bennett presided for
the business opening with a
couple of poems, "A Good
Mother's Crown" and "What is a
Mother?"
Minutes were approved as read
by Mrs. Howard Hackwell. Roll
call was collection to copper
contest leaders.
Volunteers were asked to bring
flowers for church services in
May. The bale araticles to be in
by May 22. Mrs. Dunk offered to
help pack the bale.
It was voted the unit would
purchase a new mirror to replace
the broken one in the choir room.
Mrs. ,Sholdice and Mrs. Wilbee
are to look after purchasing it.
Treasurer Mrs. M. Sholdice gave
her report.'
All units of the U.C.W. will
hold a joint meeting in June on
the first Wednesday, when Mrs.
Agnes Tenpas of Brussels will
show slides and speak of the
hold
fair
supply.
An invitation was received from
Pride of Huron Lodge, Exeter to
attend their 30th Birthday party
on Wednesday evening,' June 1st
in their Lodge Hall.
An open installation will be
held in Western Star Lodge

David McCutcheon will be the
new Dist. Dep. President of this
district. Congratulations Dave
and Best Wishes for a happy and
successful year from the local
Rebekahs.

Brother Walter who was a faithful
member of the Order for many
years.

United Church, Walton, met at
the home of Miss Ethel Dennis,
Wednesday evening with 14
members and 6 visitors present.
Mrs. C. Wey presided for
devotions opening with "Evening
Hour Prayer". Mrs. Wey had as
her theme "Family" as May is
Christian Family Month. Hymn
"0 God in Heaven, whose loving
plan" was sung accompanied by
Debbie Wey on guitar.
Mrs. Hackwell read the
scripture from Luke "The Boy
Jesus in the Temple". Mrs.
Wey gaVe the meditation followed
by Family Prayer. Mrs. H ackwell
received the offering dedicated by
Mrs. Wey,
Mrs. George Love Sr. gaVe the
topic. "One Good Sleep". Mrs.
Wey conducted a Bible contest
"Mothers & Sons".
The meeting was closed with
prayer by Mrs. Bennett, followed
by grace and Murray,nch served by
M Mrs. Gordon Mrs. Alex
Gulutzen and. Mrs. Ron Bennett.
Mrs. 'N. McGavin president,
presided for business. Mrs.
Hackwell gave treasurer's report..
A very successful bake sale was
conducted by Mrs. McGavin. The
meeting was closed by everyone
repeating the Lord's Prayer.
A social half hour was enjoyed
with lunch served by
Mrs. Walker, Mrs. Schade, Mrs.
M cCall and hostess Miss Ethel
Dennis.

walks miles to festival
MAY S, 1977
Adrian Keet, Whitechurch,
walked 350 miles to 'the Festival
for Life in Ottawa last week. Mrs.
Richard Campeau, Wingham and
Mrs. Robert Chettleburg,
Wingham, along with Mr. Keet,
represented the Wingham and
Area pro-life group at the
Festival.
The purposes of the festival
were: 1.-to educate pro-life
people, the general public, and
legislators on topics concerning
human life (e.g. abortion,
euthanasia,' etc.) and human
rights; 2.-to encourage people
involved in the pro-life movement
and; 3.40 demonstrate the
strength of the pro-life sentiment.
On Thursday, May 5, over 400
people lobbied their members
asking parliament to provide the
same protection for the unborn as
for any other human being.
On Friday, May 6, speakers
addressed pro-lifers from across-
Canada at the Ottawa Civic
Centre, Marshall McLuhan,
Malcolm Muggeridge, John
Howard Griffin (author of Black
Like Me); Dick Gregory, human
rights activist; Dr. L.L. deVeber,
Professor of Pediatrics,
University of Western Ontario;
Dr, Robert Walley, Assistant
Professor of Obstetrics, St,
Clare's Mercy Hospital, St,
John's, Newfoundland; and Dr,
Harley Stnyth, Neurosurgeon,
Toronto, were among the many
renown speakers.
On Saturday, May 7, after an
Ecumenical Breakfast at the
Chateau Lauder, a demonstration
of concern for the unborn and for'
mothers with problem pregnan-
cies was held on Parliament Hill.
The town of Witighain was put
on the map because of Adrian
Keet's walk. Malcolm
Muggeridge, for example, ,
insisted on meeting Adrian and
said "It is an honor to shake',
hand with the man who walked (.
