The program was started first the spring of 1974 with Grade 8 upils at St. James School in aforth, then to all Grade 8 upils in the separate school stem and this year to the Grade pupils as well. In answer to a question from one of the trustees Mr. M ills said the two grants were separate from the regular school grants which the board receives and would not affect those totals. Vincent Young, Goderich, chairman of the board negotiating committee reported that the negotiations with the teachers' negotiating committee have been "virtually resolved and I would 'xpect they will be completed and ified within ten days by the two con .mittees. " The next board meeting will be held on -Tuesday, May 24 because of the Vietoria Day Holiday on. Monday. At 11 P.M. the board went into committ,e-of-the-'Whole. Melville WMS studies John's gospel Melville W.M.S. met for their May meeting in the church parlour on Friday, May 6. Mrs. J. Martin, the president opened the meeting with prayer. Plans were made for the June meeting when the guest speaker will be Miss Lavonne Ballagh of Wingham. The meeting of the Maitland Presbyterial was announced for Mon., May 16 in Whitechurch. A number of ideas for increasing membership which were suggested at the Synodical meeting in Stratford, were discussed. Continuing' the study of John's gospel, Mrs. W.W. Smith gave a paper on John 5, which showed the witness of God's power. Salvation is free but man must make an effort to gain and accept' it, she said. Mrs. Harvey Dennis followed with prayer. Small businesses facing problems in any area including marketing, finance, accounting, personnel, control, costing and feasibility studies, can now hire two consultants for a maximum cost of $25 per day. The consultants are University of Western. Ontario senior business students, most with previous business experience.The students work under . teaching staff supervision in the summer program, Known as the Small Business Assistance Program, it is financed 90 percent by the SOMETHING DIFFERENT - See our netu line of Coppertvare Chalice Footed Bowl Vase said the teachers would be having workshops to prepare for the program. Superintendent William Eckert said the program would be maintained, in Grades 7 and 8..- 29 teachers in the 19 separate schools have taken the Family Life course at St. Jerome's College in Waterloo. It has provided a base of background information and teaching methods. 15 teachers have signed up for the course this summer, with their tuition fees paid by the board for the three.'Week course. ...This will result in all the schools in the system having at least one teacher in the school who has taken' the course with the exception of St. Marys School, Hesson, where none has volunteered to take the course to date. Religion consultant for the board, Theresa Woods and Mary Kennedy, both of Stratford, attended the board meeting with Mr. Gladding to present the Family Life report. The board approved the dates for the nine professional development days to be held by the teachers next school year -- September 12, October 17, November 4, December 9, April 14 and 28, May 12 and June 29 and 30. The board will ask that the school principals inform their local communities through a newsletter of the professional development days - the' dates and the purpose of these-days, two weeks in advance of each day and parents are to be invited to attend these days and that a follow-up newsletter of the days activities to be sent to each iota! community. Superintendent Joseph Mills reported his request for a grant from the regional professional development office of the "Ministry of Education had been approved for $1,125 to be used for professional develospment of special education teachers -- holding workshops. Through experience 77, through the regional office; 'WaterlOo, of the Ministry of Education sponsored by Ontario Youth Secretariat, his request for a grant of $6,116.08 had been approved to hire six students for an eight week period, They Will prepare and collate Materials for special education programs, Mr. Mills said.ge will hire one University stbdent, two Grade 12 and three Grnde sttiderits from Ontario. Ministry of Industry and Tourism and 10 percent by consulting fees. For a business to be eligible for assistance they must, be unable to afford professional consulting and must be small, The maximum consulting period is eight days, but in some cases ,the service may extend beyond that.T1Ve $25 per day charge may be waived altogether if the financial situation warrants it. The region covered under the Western program is South- western Ontario including Seaforth, all of Huron and Perth and the towns of Port Stanley, Port Dover, Woodstock, Stratford, Goderich and Sarnia.
