Doug and Debbie Trollope
joked with friends that they'd
come to the Lions elimination
draw Saturday night sometime
after 11 o'clock, "just in time to
pickup the money."
Amazingly, that's exactly what
happened when the young
Brussels man was the holder ,of
the final ticket drawn about 11:45
and came home with $3,000.
. Debbie, 21, who works at
Callendar Nursing Home, was on
the 3 to 11 shift and she and her
husband went over to the party at
the arena after she got off work.
When they arrived at 11:30 there
were five tickets left and Doug's
was one.
Doug, 25, said he bought his
winning ticket not long before the
day of the draw, "I was going to.
split one with my father-in-law
and then 1 decided 'what the.

entertainment, provided by
comedian Billy Meek and a
number of talented local people
who donated their services.
Lions Club president Bill
Beacom estimated that more than
$5000 was raised for the Lions to

Mr. Pletch, who drew up the
original list , of reasons for
council's request that the clerk
resign, gave no reason fOr his
resignation. He, along with
councillor George Jutzi,• vo+, 'ed
against the motion 'to re-instate'
clerk King.
The motion for re-instatement
was a compromise suggested. by
councillor Stretton. The clerk will
be on probation u ntil the end of
1977 and council will present him
a list telling him what is expected
of him.
Second Chance
Mr. King should be given a
second chance, councillor
Stretton said. "1 cannot
completely condone what —the
clerk has done .,. but we cane.
down ,pretty hard on him", he
said. "We . rushed into the
situation a little bit in asking for
clerk K in g's resignation without
further i ,ivestigation."
Reeve 'Krauter said it would be
difficult to get a new clerk who's
familiar with Brussels in time to
have the 1977 budget and tax
assessment finished by the end of
May. "I consider it essential to
re-instate the clerk' and get to
work for the people of Brussels
and the village of Brussels. We're
here to do a job and for God's
sake let's do it," he said to loud
applause from the 15 dr so
members of the public who
crowded the council chambers.
Acting clerk-treasurer Ruth
Sauve told council she had
discovered from government
officials and the village's
solicitors that council was obliged
to pay the former clerk eight
weeks Severeance pay, -because a
request for a resignation is
considered a .firing.
The former clerk had not filled

'out Harry Crich's' separation slip
incorrectly, Mrs. Sauve said she
had discovered from officials at
the Unemployment Insurance
Commission. A reason for firing
is not to be given on the slip, Mrs.
-Sauve was told. If the UIC wants
to know the reason they will ask
for it, and they never did",
Mrs. Sauve told councillors.
Mr. Crich's severance pay was
included with his final total pay,
, she added. The council had said
• no severance pay was mentioned
on the separation slip.
On the other reason council
gave for requesting the clerk's
resignation, Mrs. Sauve said she
had clarified the fire bill situation
with the clerk of Morris
Township. She suggested that the
