Mrs. Morton agreed that co-ed was the only way to teach the course, claiming that the origin of the question is important since boys want to know about girls and girls about boys. She said some of the questions asked would simply not be asked at all if the class was not co-ed. "Some of :the questions would be embarrassing for a parent and are probably better answered by a teacher or someone other than a parent," said Mrs. Morton. She added that she herself finds it is easier for her to deal with the subject as a teacher than as a parent. "I'm better at school than I am at home," she said. Teaching Morals too? Shirley' Hazlitt, trustee from Colborne Township, said she had heard comments all evening that suggested that the education was due more to the physical aspects of sex rather than the moral and emotional. She said she realized it was a touchy subjectit but felt compelled to point out that there may be a need to &buss sex from a moral standpoint stressing it from a husband and wife angle rather than from a physical aspect. Dorothy Wallace, Goderich trustee said it may be good to teach morality in school, claiming there may be room for religion in the classroom. She added that through sex education, maybe the board was trying to teach morality by coming through the back door. During their session in grade two they also had the opportunity to see the library in action. Inviting the parents to visit the classrooms was part of the program for Education Week. Mrs. Li*rmore, Mrs. Ireland, Miss Mitchell, Mrs. M ary Huether, and Mrs. Scott were the participating teachers. Open House was held onWW., April 20th and we had/ an excellent turn out of parents, relatives and friends. Viological: Gerbils Reaction to Smells - Lorelei Brocklebank General: Galaxies and Our Solar System - Kim Ganner and Pam Sugg. Grade 8 Physical: Test Your Grip - Rob Stute and Mike Watson. Biological: Effect of Music on Plants - Kim Brocklebank General: Creating Colours - Cathy Cooney and Cathy Sholdice Brocklebank. She won a $200 microscope. Kim Brocklebank won first place in the Grade 8 biological section. Both projects by the Brocklebank girls nray be seen in their parent's store. Rob Stute and Mike Watson won second place in the Physical section.
