HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Brussels Post, 1977-04-13, Page 13Advertising was the topic when Dave Robb of the Brussels Post spoke to 18 members of the Brussels Business Association at their meeting Wednesday, night in the Brussels Inn. Mr. Rohb explained different methods of advertising and told merchants the best times to advertise certain products. The Post goes into 900 homes in Brussels and area:- he ,explained. BBA members suggested advertising not just the individual businesses but the whole town. Brussels could promote its old town atmosphere and modern ideas and also its mill on the Maitland, some members, felt. "Brussels is really friendly, we should promote that", one member said. More than the 65 antique cars which visited Brussels last summer will be here ctn June 11, and 12, BBA member Max Watts aid, They will tour the village, have breakfast in the Lions park and an antique car flea market vill be part of the weekend. Brussels residents could dress in heir centennial costumes for the weekend, it was suggested. Sidewalk sales may also be ;planned for that weekend. Treasurer Cec Moore said the BBA is in good financial, shape and hopes to use some of its money for next year's Santa Claus parade. President Ken Webster said the Maitland Saddle Club haven't met yet to set a date for their annual summer rodeo in the village, which is co-sponsored by the BBA. Herb Stretton urged BBA iembers to come out in force for he MVCA meeting on the old russels mill on April 14. Brussels people hve been using the suggestion boxes that the BBA has placed in local businesses. Suggestions have included a cleanup paint up month in May, and a lower price on basic groceries like milk and bread. A member commented that grocers only make a few cents on Milk and bread. The BBA urges Brussels people to make use of the boxes. The next BBA meeting will be May 4 at 8 p.m. in the Texan Grill. THE BRUSSELS POST, APRIL 13, 1977 —13 HuronView marks Easter. Mrs, ShirleyLuther led the Sunday evening song service sponsored by the Christian Women's Club, Eric Luther accompanied at the organ for a vocal duet by Elsie Henderson and Shirley Luther and solos by Glenn Slade, Mrs. pearl Erratt gave a reading. The Monday afternoon Old Tyme Music program was held in the Normal Care sitting room with music provided, by t he the Huronview Orchestra followed by a sing-a-long. Volunteer Ed Zearle assisted with activities. A musical group of five girls from the Clinton Christian Reformed Church provided the "Family Night" program, The group sang several sacred, popular, And action songs and provide their own guitar accompaniment, Included in the group are Joanne Dykstra, Debbie Postma, Christine Valkenbuyg, Renee and Audrey Roorda. Mrs. Valkenburg a Grandmother of one of the girls expressed the apprecaition of the residents. Twenty-six members of the Over 90 Club met on Wednesday afternoon and enjoyed an hour of music followed by a social time with tea and cookies served by the Walkerburn Club volunteers. Mrs. Elsie Henderson accompanied at the piano for a vocal duet by Mrs. Luella Cox and Cecil Skinner with violin numbers by Norman Speir and a sing-a-long of Easter music.
