Sholdice on Monday aft ernoon when 18 ladies who answered the roll call with a verse of Prayer. Mrs. Miller as leader, paid respect to the memory of. Miss Mae Skelton who passed away recently. She had served in many capacities within the church and community and had a special interest in "Save the Children" organization. Sympathy , was extended to Mrs. Sholdice and Mrs.Smith as well. The devotions were convened by Mrs. H. of London, were weekend visitor at the home of Jack and Ka McWhirter, where a surprise 25th Wedding Anniversary celebration was held in their honor. Thomas. She read a poem entitled Spring. The Scripture Act 3, 1-10 was read by Mrs. Steffler. The Meditation on the reading was offered by Mrs. Thomas followed by Prayer. M rs. C. Thomas accompanied the hymn singing by playing the autoharp which was appreciated. Mrs. Miller conducted a Bible quizz. The topic "Today's Good News" was presented by Mrs. V. Hupfer. She enlarged on the value and use of the Holy Bible. It's message is most relative to the needs of today's world. Afternoon unit hears autoharp music The Public Speaking contest for Brussels Public School was held on Tuesday, March 8 in She auditorium. A number of parents were present and their interest was greatly appreciated. The judges were Mrs. Audrey Tiffin, a teacher from F.E. Madill Second- ary School and Angus MacLennan, Principal of Hullett Central School. The following is a list of the speakers, their topic and the winners: Grade 5 - Darlene Freeman, Miss Apple Daisy; Brenda Rich- mond, A Japanese Visitor; Chris King, Camping. Winner: Brenda Richmond. Grade 6 - Pam Wilson, Asthma; Kevin Wheeler, Me; Janice Melville Ladies Aid met at the home of Mrs. G. Evans who presided. Devotions were taken by Mrs. King & Mrs. Mathieson. Reports were given by Mrs. Armstrong and Mrs. Mat hieson and 1977 dues were paid. Mrs. R. Steiss was in charge of the programme and read an Irish poem. Mrs. Evans gave two short readings "March Madness" and "Maggie and Pats 50th Anniversary, also an Irish contest taken from the word Shamrock. The ladies were pleased to meet and entertain Miss T. Freebree. Mrs. Innis joined for a cup of tea served by Mrs. Evans OPP has 6 crashes During the week of March 7-13, Officers at the Wingham OPP detachment conducted 25 investigations. During the week, there were six motor vehicle collisions which caused an estimated $8,050.00 in property damage and injuries to five persons. On Tuesday, March 8, Rodney E. Hall of Clifford and Paul C. Veenhof of RR.1, Clifford received injuries as a result of a two car collision on Sideroad 25-26, north of County Road 30, Howick Township. On Saturday, March 11, Grant E. Perks of Wingham received injuries as a result of a single car accident on #4 Highway at Huron Road 16. On Sunday, March 13, Raymond L. Breckenridge was injured as a result Of a single car Adams, Jill Kinmont. Winner: Pam Wilson. Grade 7 - Janice Somers, Drug Abuse; Cathy Wierenga, Horses; Jacquie Robertson, 4-H. Winner: Jacquie Robertson. Grade 8 - Paul Nichol, Roots; Jim Scott, Phptography; Cathy Sholdice, Giraffes. Winner: Paul Nichol. Overall Grade 5 and 6 Winner - Pam Wilson. Overall Grade 7 and 8 Winner - Paul Nichol. The following speakers will represent Brussels Public School in a speak-off with Grey Central Public School to determine who represents. the Brussels Legion in the Zone Contest: and lunch prepared by Mrs. E. Long and Mrs. T.Kerr. Grade 5 and 6 - Brenda Richmond, Pam Wilson; Grade 7 and 8 - Paul Nichol and Cathy Sholdice. The students were coached by Mr. Prior, Mrs. Cousins and Mrs. Raymond.' The students and teachers are to be commended for the excellent quality of speeches presented at the competition. This is the first sentence of the Remembrance Day Essay that Cathy Cooney wrote way back in November for the Legion Remembrance Day Poem, Essay Contest. Cathy won first prize in her essay and the essay then went on to the Zone Contest and won third prize. We at the Brussels Public Schbol would like to congratulate her.
