Curling Bonspiel took place on Monday, January 24th, at the Brussels Arena with '16 teams competing. • A roast beefilinner'waS' served at noon by the Ladies' CUrling Cl ub , The Brussels Stockyards Trophy was won by a Teeswater team skipped by Wallace Bafingli with• Byron Ballagh as vice, Blake Alton second, and Alan Grant lead. The second place team in the 9 o'clock draw was Jim Hawkins'. team of Goderich. The third place The F.E.Madill Junior Volleyball Team coached by Miss Schofield is off to a fast start. The team is made up of Barb Haselgrove, Michelle Rintoul, Lori Goodall, Norma Maclnty re, Mary Dickson, bebbie Macdonald, Janet Wood, Kathy Cruickshank, Esther Nethery, Linda Taylor, Nancy Dickson and Glenna Barkey. The girls played their first tournament at Goderich . on January 15. They played two games against each team. Results are: Win Losses Madill vs Parkside 1 1 St. Thomas 1 1 Strathroy 1 1 Bowling scores Ladies High Singles-Heather Brown, 254; Jane Draper, 254; and Sharon Taylor 232. Ladies High Triple-Sharon Taylor-626; Heather Brown,614 and Jane Draper, 588. Men's High Singles-RAY Adams, 263; Gteg Huether, 237 and Jim Adams, 226. Men's High Triple-410 Adains,750; Greg Huether,654 and Jim ,Adams 630. team was that . of, Grant McDonald of Ripley. The Consolation prize was won by Jim Bosman's team of Brussels. Ross Cunningham's team of Brussels was the winning team in the 11 o'clock draw. Gerald Smith was skip, Ross Cunningham vice, Fred Uhler second and Brad Speran lead. The second place team was the team of Bob Martin of Gorrie. Barry Mulvey of Belmore had the third place team. The consolation prize went to the team • of Murray Shiell of Wingham. They were in the "B" series and played their first game against Cli nton. At the end of the first period the home team was trailing 2 - 1. Th ey came iback in the third period to defeat Clinton 5 - 3. Goal scorers were Paul Machan with 2, Tommy Ward, DoUg. Shaw and Darrin Watts, I each. Assists went to Kevin Johnston, Robbie Cardiff, Doug Shaw, Tommy Ward. In the second game, for the "B" championship, they played the home team of Seaforth. Once more our boys were behind 2 - 1 at the end of the second. period. They rallied in the third period to win the game with Robbie Cardiff scoring the winning goal with 27- seconds remaining in the game. Goal Scorers were Robbie Cardiff with 2 unassisted goals, Doug Shaw from Kevin McArter ,and Darrin Watts from Dean Rutledge. • In an exhibition game against the "A" champs who were Hanover, the local team were defeated 6 - 2. Goals were scored by Darrin Watts from Dean Rutledge and Doug Shaw from Darrin Watts. In other local activities the Wednesday night hockey games were cancelled,due to our stormy weather. On Thursday night the Pewees were in Hensall where they picked up a 5 - 1 win. Scoring for Brussels were. Tod Wheeler, Danny Achilles, Stewart Cardiff; Kevin Wheeler, Kevin Deitner. Assits went to Steve Knight, Leslie Black and Kevin Deitner. On Friday night the same team played host to the Dublin squad. The home team scored a 5 - 3 victory over the •Dublin boys. Brussels scorers were Kevin Stop delaying getting your own home! In the second game of the night the Drayton Bantams defeated the home team 4 - 1. Brussels' only goal was scored by Paul Bragg with assists going to Brian Kellington and Mike Watson. Council may change date The possibility of changing the traditional meeting date of Huron County Council, froiii the last Friday of the month to some other date, was discussed briefly by the councillors on Tuesday afternoon before the issue was referred to the Executive Committee. When Warden Douglas McNeil asked how members would prefer to meet on the last Thursday of the month only nine indicated they would support such a change. When asked how many preferred the Friday meeting day 13 indicated their support. The matter was sent to the Executive - Committee for consideration but a change is not expected.
