Two heifers consigned by Bruce Blake of Brussels averaging 1110 lbs. topped the heifer market at 41.30, with Bob Blake's heifer weighing 1,110 lbs. selling for 41.00. Eighteen heifers consigned by Jan Visscher of Waterloo averaging 952 lbs. sold for 39.10. Seven heifers consigned by George Blake of Brussels averaging 1062 lbs. sold for 40.10 with his lot of 23 heifers averaging 1000 lbs. selling for 38.65. Choice Cbws - 23.00 to 25.00 with sales to 27.00. Good Cows - 21.00 to 23.00. Bulls traded to a. high of 28.75. 30 to 40 lb. pigs traded to a high of 40.75. 40 to 50-lb. pigs to a high of 44.50. 50 to 60-lb pigs to a high of 49:50. 60 to 70-1b. pigs to a high of 54.50. All classes of cattle and pigs met a good, demand at the Brussels Stockyards with 744 cattle and 1405 pigs on offer. Choice Steers - 41.00 to 43.00. Five steers consigned by J. & M, Ranch of Brussels averaging 1234 lbs. sold for 42.60. OPP at Wingham Detachment conducted thirty investigations in recent days. Eight charges were laid under, the Highway Traffic Act and twenty-five warnings issued. Four charges were laid under the Liquor Licence Act. One charge was laid under the Criminal Code. During the week, there were eleven Motor Vehicle Collisions which caused an estimated $5,695.00 in property damage and injuries to eleven persons. On December 28, Randal A', Pillow of R.R.2, Amherstburg was injured as •result of a two-car collision on Highway 87, east of Huron Road 33 when the vehicle he was driving struck the rear of a vehicle driven by Murray A. Louttit of R.R.,1, Gorrie, Ontario. On January 1, Mary, L. Strimas of Chtham and two passengers in h er car, Paul G. Strimas and Me lisa Strimas, also of Chatham, received injuries as as result of a collision on Highway 4, north of the Blyth C.P.R. Crossing. Grant A. Vincent of Belgrave and Clayton R. Bosman of R.R.1, Belgrave were involved in a collision on Sideroad 39-40, south of Concession 2 - 3, East Wawanosh Township. Both were injured as a result of the collision. Jane M. Lennox of Harriston and J. Kenneth Pennington of Gorrie were involved in a collision on County Road 28, north of Mill St., Gorrie. Both were injured as well as a passenger, Brian S. Lennox of Harriston. On January 2, Ronald B. Henry of R.R.1, Wingham was eastbound on Highway 86 when an unknown vehicle crossed the centre li ne and struck the Henry vehicle. Mr. Henry and a passenger, Marlene A. Henry were injured as a result. During 1976, Wingham Detachment officers investigated 342 Motor Vehicle Accidents, the greatest reduction in over five years. The 1975 total was 402,- so the reduction represents almost 15%. A detailed program of Selective Traffic Enforcement was initiated December 1st, 1975, and Sergeant Len George feels that this, coupled with the reduction in the speed limit law, was instrumental in this impressive reduction in accidents. An analysis of the accident reports substantiates established maxims. Two of the deaths involved elderly people; one a pedestrian, but the other five persons had been drinking, 3 an alarming amount. Commenting on the statistics officers pointed out that alcohol's misuse is still society's paramount problem in traffic accidents, policing •costs, social and welfare costs, health and car costs.
