New -Year
The New Year's meeting of the
Afternoon Unit was held on
Tuesday at the home of Mrs.
Annie Bray with 18 members
present. The president, , Mrs.
Miller, read a New Year's poem
to open the meeting. The New
.Year's devotions were convened
by Mrs. Hupfer. The members
joined in singing two verses of
"What a Friend we have in
Jesus".
The Scripture, Joshua 3:
1 - 11 and meditation were read
by Mrs. R. Cousins. The theme
verse "When you see the ark of
the covenant of the Lord your
God, follow it, that you may know
the way ,by which you must go, for
you have not passed this way
before", was our key verse for
1977. Prayer was offered. A poem
"Throughout the Coming Year,"
as well, as a reading "No Longer
Regarded" were read by Mrs.
Hupfer.
"Reflections on Christmas
Celebrations" was the subject of
a study by Mrs. Crocker. She
reminded members that possibly
we have missed the true meaning
I and Christian Spirit of Christmas
through our extravagance and
expensive purchases of gifts not
useful to the recipient. Our bodies
become fatigued through over
indulgence and an excess of social
I entertainment.
She suggeskd we
give more of ourselves through
promises pledges and
homemade gifts; that the
' standard be reduced from endless
monetary giving to that of simple
and humble thought as well as a
Christian Spirit in all our
activities.
Mrs. Hemingway conducted a
