Christmas decor prominent at UCW meeting
Christmas time provides a fertile
field for the fruition of creative,
artistic and innovative ideas. It was

meeting held at the manse on Dec.
15.
Handcrafted articles especially,
in the rooms Christmas decor,
attracted attention. Much to the
delight of the ladies, President
Susan Howson introduced the
annual reports by reading an
original poem in which she imitat

The Christmas meeting of Mel

was held at the home of Mrs.
Gerald Gibson with 14 ladies, Mr
Jamieson and twochildren pre
sent.
Mrs. MacLeod, the president,
opened the meeting by repeating
“This is the day that the Lord has
made’ ’ and a prayer written by
Peter Marshall for Christmas.
The hymn, “Rejoice the Lord is
King’ ’ was sung. The reports from
the secretary and the work commit

setting and narrative with that of a
Christmas meeting at the manse.
Twelve red paper stockings
hung in the archway and after each
annual report was given, down
came a stocking.
The “clatter” in Susan’s poem
was not that of reindeers’ hooves,
but of Evening Unit girls busy in
the kitchen putting last minute
touches to the refreshments.
Another innovative idea came to

and Isabel Adams were to be a
nominating committee to bring in a
slate of officers for the coming
year. There is to be no meeting in
January.
The treasurer ’ s report was given
by Evelyn Mair and “Praise God
from whom all blessings flow’ ’ was
sung following the taking up of the
collection. Mrs. MacLeod thanked
every one for helping so generous

hoped they would do the same for
the new president, Helen Elliott.
light when, Susan played her
autoharp. She also used it as
effective accompaniment for her
offertory solo, “Holy Night”.
The worship service was conduc
ted by Susan Howson and Joanne
Bauman. Joanne read two short
stories, “The Miracle of the Rose”
and “You have to will it to Snow”.
She also offered a beautiful prayer
of thankfulness to close the
worship period.
President Susan thanked all for
their support during the year.
The roll call was answered with a
verse containing the word gift.
Mrs. MacLeodand Mrs. Mair
prepared a Christmas programme
and several ladies read Christmas
stories and each were followed by
Christmas Carols. Heather Douma
and Jason Ropp were dressed as
Joseph and Mary and had a baby in
a cradle. The hymn, “O Come all
Ye Faithful” was sung and Mrs.
Jamieson closed the meeting with
prayer. The Social Committee
served a lovely lunch of sandwich
es, Christmas cake and shortbread
and a social time was enjoyed.
Adeline Campbell read the min

report prepared by Evelyn Smith
who was absent.
Lenora Davidson’s report show
ed that a card of thanks had been
received from the Board of Ste
wards for money received.
Treasurer Debbie Pierce offered
her resignation. She felt she should
nothold the position any longer
when she was unable to attend
meetings. Edelgard Hoba was
installed as treasurer.
At this meeting, June Peck took
a photograph of the Executive
