Strong prices mean early Christmas present for sellers ♦GREETINGS The market at Brussels Stock- yards traded actively at strong prices and a good demand on all classes of cattle. Cows sold higher. Pigs were barely steady. There were 744 cattle and 726 pigs on offer. Choice steers sold from $85 to $89.50 with sales to $94 per hundredweight. Good steers were $82 to $85.50. Five steers con­ signed by Douglas Wagg of RR 5, Mitchell averaging 1296 lbs. sold for $89.60 with his lot of 11 steers averaging 1251 lbs. selling for fee of $5.00 to all our Friends &Soil fertility course offered in new year The Ontario Ministry of Agricul­ ture and Food is offering a two-day workshop cn soil fertility. The course will feature the latest information on nitrogen, phos­ phorous, potash, micronutrients, pH, soil testing manure value and soil management. The course will be of most value to individuals who have not participated in the course before. Registration $88.74. Eight steers consigned by Reuben Borth of RR 3, Mildmav averaging 1304 lbs. sold for an overall price of $87.78 with a sale to $91.50. Fourteen steers consigned by Bert Hastings of RR 4, Wingham averaging 1 130 lbs. sold for an overall price of $87.74 with sales to $88.90. Ten steers consigned by Jim Poortinga of RR 1, Woodham averaging 1083 lbs. sold for an overall price of $87.74 with sales to $88.50. Choice white-faced heifers were $83 to $87. A heifer consigned by Gary Bell of RR 1, Wroxeter weighing 1060 lbs. topped the market at $102.25 with his offering of 36 heifers averaging 1143 lbs. selling for an overall price of $88.10. Five heifers consigned by Calvin Sem­ ple of RR 1, Ethel averaging 1112 lbs. sold for an overall price of $86.38withasaleat$88.50with his steer in the same load weighing 1250 lbs. selling for $89.50. Choice cows were $53 to $57. Good cows were $49 to $53. Canners andcutters w’ere$44 to $49. A fancy Limousin bull weighing 1440 lbs. sold for $77.25. Thirty to 40-lb. pigs traded to a high of $1.65; 40 to50-lb. pigs to a high of $1.52; 50 to 60-lb pigs to a high of $1.40; 60 to 70-lb. pigstoa high of $1.30; 70 to 80-lb. pigs to a high of $1.17.
