In all the Christmas Concerts last week, Grey Township School was the only one that ran a baby-sitting service so that parents could enjoy the concerts without little kids getting tired. Above, front row, Rebecca Brubacher looks after her little sister, Sarah; Ann Uhler minds Michelle Dewitt; Charmaine Lichti takes care of Candace [last name unknown]; and Cathy Earl holds Amanda Stratton. Behind, Angie Williams reads to Angie Stratton, while sitter Jason Prescott is temporarily unemployed. All the volunteer sitters are from Grade 6; the free service was offered in the school library. Ethel euchre held Bob Bremner and John Smith were hosts for the Hall Board Euchre on Monday evening. Thirteen tables were in play. The following people were winners: high lady, Violet Smith; high man, Bill McClelland; low lady, Joan Smith; low man, Stanley Hewitt; most lone hands, lady, Beryl Smith, man, Harold Metcalfe; A Christmas story The best Christmas gift Sally’s brother Timmy was writing a letter to Santa, when she askedhim, “Timmy, would you write Santa a letter for me, too?” Sally didn’t know how to write, you see. “All right,” said Timmy. “What do you want Santa to bring you?” Sally thought and thought. “I don’t know what to ask for,” she told her brother. “That’s easy,” said Timmy. “Why don’t you ask for a fire engine? ’ “No, I don’t think 1 want a fire engine,” Sally said. “Then how about a trans­ former?” said Timmy. “No, Idon’t want a transformer.” Timmy was getting annoyed with his little sister. “You’d better decide what you want to ask Santa first. I have to write my own ietter now!” Sally looked at all her toys. She had two dolls, a toy stove and sink, a dollhouse, crayons and a coloring book, and lots and lots of stuffed animals. She thought about it every day until it was Christmas Eve, and she still had not thought of something she didn't already have. The next euchre will be on January 12, 1987 hosted by the Ethel Women’s Institute. On Christmas morning, Timmy was the first one out of bed. He dashed into the living room and soon he came running into Sally’s room to wake her up. “Sally!” he said, “Come see whait Santa brought you! ’ ’ Sally jumped out of bed and ran to the living room. There, under the tree, was a big box marked “To Sally from Santa.” Sally ran to the box and looked in. Inside was an adorable puppy! Visiting with them were: Mr. and Mrs. John Morgan, Gillian and Kristan of Ilderton; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Phillips of RR 7, Lucknow, Mr. and Mrs Raszmann and Kevin of Monkton; Andrew and Doris Bremner of Ethel; Della and Andy McMichael of Wroxeter; Nolan W ettlaufer of Tavistock and Donna Bremner of Winnipeg who is holidaying at home for two weeks. Ross and Marie Stephenson have a new grandson. He is Darcy Andrew, son of Murray and Jean Whytock of Teeswater. Now that exams are over, college and university students are home for Christmas holidays. Sally scooped the puppy up and hugged it. The puppy licked Sally’s face and wagged its tail happily. Just then, Sally’s parents came into the living room. “Look what Santa brought me, ” Sally said, showing them the puppy. Sally’s mother smiled. “I guess Santa knew there was something you didn’t already have.” “Yes, and it’s the best present ever!” said Sally, hugging her new puppy. SEASON’S • BEST!
