PAGE 29. ‘Wheels’makes Crusader debut count The Intermediate team travelled to Wellesley on Friday night to play the top place team in the league. Gerry Wheeler donned his equipment for his first game of the year and made his presence known to the Wellesley goalie. The home team took an early 2 - 0 lead in the game and then at 12:46 Gerry Wheeler assisted by Dave Montgomery and Rob Core scored his first goal on a power play effort. Wellesleyscoredagainat 11:32 before Ken Cousins scored from Dave Montgomery at 3:39. Wellesley scored just 26 seconds later to go ahead by two goals. Gerry Wheeler assisted by Dave Montgomery scored at 1:23 on his second power play goal to end the period at 4 - 3. Gerry scored unassisted a short- handed goal a minute and 12 seconds into the second period. The next goal came from Wellesley ulls split pair of games BY LOIS McARTER The Brussels Juniors travelled to Seaforth on Friday night to play the Centennaires. It was a strange game. The firsthalf of the game belonged to Brussels and then Seaforth took over and claimed the second half. Seaforth opened the scoring at 16:40 of the period to take the lead. The remainder of the period was scoreless until the five-minute mark when Tim Fritz assisted by Kevin McArter and Blake Flett scored to tie the game. At 1:59 Brian Campbell assisted by Marty Rutledge and Doug Shaw scored the go-ahead goal. Just 16 seconds later Tim Fritz, Kevin McArter and Paul Robinson combined to give the Bulls a 3 -1 lead at the end of the period. Kevin McArter opened the scoring in the second at 17:01 assisted by Paul Robinson and Tim Fritz. It was 9:19 when Blake Flett assistedbyTim Fritz and Kevin Lee added the fifth Bull’s goal. Then the Centennaires took over. They scored four unanswered goals between 8:17 and the 4:00 Brussels Pee Wees win, lose The Brussels Peewee team travelled to Harriston Tuesday night to play hockey and picked up a 4-3 win for their efforts. Dan Beuerman assisted by Jason Koetsier scored the first goal for Brussels. Greg Lee assisted by Shawn Jacklin got credit for the second. Then the “Greg” line connected with Mul­ vey scoring assisted by Clark. Dan Beuerman scored unassisted for what proved to be the winning goal. They were at home to Drayton on Friday night and were defeated 6 - 1. The only Brussels goal was scored by Jason Koetsier with assists from Brent Evans and Grant Martin. Atoms win in minute mark to tie the score. Tim Fritz managed to score in a scramble around the goalie with 35 seconds left in the period and put Brussels ahead. Seaforth came out in the third and scored four more goals before Paul Robinson, Tim Fritz and Kevin Johnston got their only goal of the period at 10:04. Seaforth added two more goals before claiming their 11-7 victory. BEAT CLINTON SUNDAY The Bulls were at home to Clinton on Sunday afternoon who travelled over in some rather adverse weather conditions. Brussels’ Paul Robinson opened the scoring assisted by Kevin Johnston and Mike Chapman. Kevin McArter assisted by Tim Fritz added the Bulls’ second goal. Clinton scored their first goal at the 1:09 mark with Brussels’ Doug Shaw scoring unassisted with just 59 seconds remaining in the period. Clinton scored 58 seconds into the third period with Tim Fritz and Marty Rutledge combining for the Bulls at 14:14. Tim Fritz, Kevin McArter and Kevin Johnston combined to give Brussels a 5 - 2 lead. Clinton scored two more goals before the period ended to come within one goal. The third period remained scoreless until 3:59 was remaining when Mike Chapman, Kevin Lee and Tim Fritz added the only goal of the period to give Brussels the 6 - 4 victory. The Bulls will be playing three games this week. Tuesday night will find them back in Seaforth for an 8:30 start. Friday night they will be in Clinton at 8:30 and on Sunday will be at home to Exeter at 2 p.m. The weekly lottery draw was held at Sunday’s home game with Ross Nichol being the lucky winner of $50. mid-way through the period. Ken Cousins came through with Brus­ sels second goal of the period assisted by Dave Montgomery and Gerry Wheeler, to tie the score. With just 13 seconds remaining in the period Ken Cousins scored on a pass from Brian Tenpas to give Brussels a one goal lead. Brussels controlled the third period of play with Ken Cousins scoring unassisted at 15:36 of the period, for his fourth goal of the night. Gerry Wheeler added his fourth goal of the game at 8:38 assisted by Dave Montgomery. Kevin Deitner completed the scoring on a pass from Mike Watson with 1:06 remaining in the game and a 9 - 5 victory for the Crusaders. The win put Brussels in top spot for their division. The Intermediate game schedul­ ed for Friday night against Monk­ ton has been re-scheduled for Saturday night, Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. in the Brussels arena. Monkton could not locate ice for Friday night. Remember to correct your sche­ dule. The Intermediates will be at home on Sunday nightfor an 8 p.m. game against the visiting Milver­ ton 4-Wheel Drives. This same Ripley team will be back in Brussels on Friday night for a return game. The Atom team also played in Howickon Saturday in a tourna- mentthere. They played a team from Mt. Forest in the first game whom they defeated 7 - 0. Their second game was against Palmerston whom they defeated 3 - 1. The third game was played against a B team from Ripley which they defeated 7-1. The boys obviously played some good hock­ ey for the three victories. Game sheets were not passed out to the coaches but honourable mention should go to Matt Lee who scored five goals in the first game and Wayne Alexander who scored three goals in the last game.
