A unique shopping spree took place at Christmas and Country in Blyth Wednesday night when about 20 members of the “Sunshine Girls” from Brucefield and Kippen United Church had the store all to themselves. Storeowners Marilyn Forbes [left] and Bev Elliott [right] show Gayle Pepper from the Sunshine Giris some of the tree ornaments in the store. The group has a shopping spree annually. Hullett Councillor Harvey Ste wart had his 15-year-old beard shaved off in public after raising pledges of $440 for the sacrifice, while a “Chinese Auction” took care of Ralph De Weerd’s crown ing glory for $410. Dave Overboe’s public shaving only brought in $25, which is probably why the same amount is all the Londesboro Lions could get in auctioning off a beardless Dave to play Santa Claus at Aileen Salverda’s Christmas party. “Before the auction began, Mr. Riddell asked the crowd to be very ‘liberal’ in its bidding, and people certainly opened their hearts and their wallets for us,’’ said Mr. Overboe. He promised to have a complete list of all bidders and prices read for next week’s Citizen. In other weekend action, the Londesboro Women’s Institute Fashion Show on Friday evening brought in more than $1,700 after expenses, while the41-tablemen’s euchre tournament on Friday raised more than $1,500; and 16 Local skaters tables in the ‘teen’ euchre tourna ment on Saturday added another $300. Winners of the men’s euchre were Ron Ferguson and Don McAdam, both of Blyth, while the runners-up were Bill Millson and Doug Riley. Lori Leibold of Blyth and her partner Kim Rathwell were the teen champions, while three teams tied for the runner-up position. The weekend wound up with a family dance in the packed school gym, at which the keys to the new van were officially presented to Ron Nesbitt. From beginning to end, it has been seven weeks which will never be forgotten by anyone who was involved, a magnificent beginning to the Christmas sea son. Robert McIntyre, Reg. O.H.A.A.
