Festival Singers perform
The Blyth Festival Singers held
their Christmas Concert on Sun
day, November 30, at Blyth
Memorial Hall.
This was Angus Sinclair’s first
concert as Director of the Festival
Choir and both the afternoon and
evening performances received a
good response from the audience.
The 90-voice Exeter Public
School Choir singing their favour-
ite carol “Stars that Twinkle and
Shine”, David Fox’s Christmas
readings, Mary Hearn’s harp
accompanimentfor two selections,
the pipes which introduced the
Boar’s Head Carol (complete with
an actual boar’s head with an
apple in its mouth), familiar and
newcarols and Dick Poore’s hot
mulled cider were just some of the
highlights.
This Concert has become a
tradition at Blyth and tied in with
this years’ Christmas Walk-a-Bout
in the Village on Sunday afternoon.

shot near the goal crease with
Jonathan Collins and Ryan Cham-
ney garnering assists. With this 4 -
1 victory, Blyth would meet
Plattsville on Sunday afternoon for
the Consolation championship.
Expectations for a great game
were high as the teams took to the
ice. A warm puck slowed down the
game and caused some very
sloppy play by both teams. All the
scoring was accomplished in the
second period with Plattsville
edging Blyth by a 3 - 1 score.
Plattsville scored three quick
goals in the second period to send
Blyth's hopes on a skid from which
they never recovered.
Blyth scored their only goal on a
power play as defenceman Peter
Craig pinched in at the blueline,
controlled the puck and passed it
out in front of the net. Ryan
Chamney was all alone in the slot
where he took the pass, turned,
and quickly deposited the puck
behind the Plattsville goaltender.
This was a very discouraging way
to end the tournament but, as the
saying goes, ‘‘somebody has to
lose.” Blyth played another three
close competitive games with all
team members putting an excel
lent effort into this weekend
endeavor. If the coaching staff can
ever get a consistent line-up for
every game, maybe this group of
players will finally gel as a team
and play inspired hockey for the
Blyth fans who will no doubt come
down to the arena to support them.
Next game for the Blyth novice
team is this Wednesday, Decem
ber 3 at 7 o’clock in Blyth against
Mitchell.

On Monday, November 25 a
“mindless” act of vandalism was
performedatCentralHuron Se
condary School.
Fortunately nothing was stolen,
but the smashed windows, cracked
fountains and holes in the walls
testify to the willful destruction.
The estimated cost is $2,000 with
the windows being the most
expensive.
The principal Joe Wooden and
the police have suspects but with
no concrete evidence, the delin
quents who performed such an act
cannot be convicted. The principal
is offering a $250 reward to anyone
who can supply evidence. The
student council is considering
putting up another $250 to make a
$500 reward.
The vandalism involves a gang
of three or four individuals who are
believed to be out of school. A
hammer was used for all the
damage. They got into the school
through the teacher’s cafeteria by
carefully removing a window.
