Huron Holstein Club honourstop cows At last week’8 Huron County Holstein Club’s annual meeting, Honour List Certificates were presented to three cows bred and owned by Kennairn Farms, RR 3, Blyth. The county’s top two-year-old was Kennairn Enterpriser Jessie,* the top three-year-old was Kennairn Sheik Jemima,* and the top four-year-old was Kennairn Sunset Jasper Red. Glen McNeil of RR 6, Goderich, won the awards for the best aged cow and the best senior yearling. Above, Ken and Shirley Ramsey and son, Bryan, of Kennairn Farms, display the awards. FRESH CUT... Cnristmaf TREES The annual meeting of the Huron County Holstein Club took place November 25 atthe Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre, with more than 150 members in attendance. Club president Ken Ramsey highlightedthe activities of the past year, pointing out that all events over the past 12 months had been well attended. In giving the financial report, secretary Betty Jones warned members that some “belt-tightening” may be neces­ sary if the Club intended to continue to support and promote 4-H Clubs and Holstein cattle as well as has been done in the past. HuronCounty Dairy Princess Angela Nethery brought greetings from the Milk and Cream Produ­ cers, and told the meeting of her experiences as princess. Bob McNeil of the Ontario Branch informed the club of the Bulter Education Project, and of the Convention in Hamilton next February, while national director Jim Needham gave a report of activities at the national level. Ray Pennington of the O.D.H.I.C. reported on the latest development of the milk testing field, while OMAF farm manage­ ment specialist informed the club that 75 per cent of his work lies in financial management, and the remainder largely in feed returns. Holstein fieldman Paul Meyer spoke on classification, and then presented Heather Holm Farms of Goderich, owned by Glen and Cliff McNeil, with the 1986 Premium Breeder and Exhibitor Award. Since no contest was held for the directors’ positions of the Holstein Club, the following members were installed by acclamation: Area 1, Robert Vodden, RR 1, Clinton, and Terrance Buchanen, RR 1, Bel­ grave; Area II, David Ten Pas, RR 2, Wingham, and Lyle Martin, RR 1, Ethel; Area III, Allan Carter. RR 4, Clinton. A second director is still required for Area Ill, and anyone interested is asked to contact Club secretary Betty Jones. The Top Production Certificates were awarded, and Excellent Cow certificates were awarded to the following animals: Rayel Senator Sandy, owned by Allan Wylie; Rayel Senator Bonnie,.bred and owned by Allan Wylie; Wierholme Hillie, bred and owned by John Wiersma; Lloyd’s Windsor, owned by Adrie Bos and Lloyd T.
