Blyth Peewees score first win of season Blyth opens ringette season Blyth should be pleased with the showing of its newly formed Novice Ringette Team. The girls played their first game on Saturday, Nov. 29 against Exeter. The Exeter girls towered over the Blyth team as far as size was concerned, but despite their small stature, the Blyth girls held up their end remarkably well con side ring that not only was it there first game, but it was only the third or fourth time that some of the girls have skated on hockey skates. Whenyou’reused to figure skates, the change is tricky. The girls looked quite nice in their new Blyth Novices lose burgundy shirts which were pur chased by minor sports. The score of the game was 5 to 0 for Exeter. This score was kept that low by the excellent goal tending of Marie Cronyn. Strong skating and good ring control were shown by Karen Bromley, Kim Richmond and Julie McNichol. Pauline Ste wart did an excellent job on defence. All the girls did a good job and even as the game progressed you could see them improving. Little five-year-old Sarah McNich ol stole the show with even the Exeter fans cheering for her. This game was a good beginning for an even better season. The girls’ next game is Saturday, Dec. 13 when they will meet up with Brussels in Blyth at 12 noon. In the second period the * ‘wheels fell off” as far as Blyth was concerned and Ripley took advant age by scoring 4 times. In the third period Blyth was back on track but despite several good scoring opportunities includ ing a good shot by Troy Carter and a breakaway by Rick Howson the team was kept scoreless. Blyth also kept Ripley scoreless for the remainder of the game. The game ended up 7 to 1 for Ripley. Then, the inevitable finally happened. On Thursday, Nov. 27 the boys travelled to Tiverton for their second game against Tiver ton. Right from the first face off the game proved to be a fast-moving, action-filled, very clean game. The teams were evenly matched and the competition was keen. Blyth took every opportunity they got to shoot on the goal.
