Bulls bag two wins on weekend play BY LOIS McARTER The Brussels Juniors were at home on Friday night to the Clinton Mustangs in a close game of hockey that brought a 4 - 3 victory. Clinton opened the scoring early in the first period to take a 1 - 0 lead. Tim Fritz scored on a pass from Kevin McArter and Blake Flett to tie the score with Brian Campbell assisted by Dave Harding and Marty Rutledge getting the go- ahead goal. Kevin Lee assisted by Kevin McArter added the third goal before the period ended. The second period had equal Player of the Month TIM FRITZ 5’9”, 1651bs. Goalie Pat Chambers stood strong and held the Bulls in for the 4 - 3 victory. The second $50 draw of the weekly lottery tickets was made at this game with Jim and Donna Knight being rhe lucky winners. The first draw was made at Meet The Player night with Rick McDon­ ald being the winner. The Novem­ Brusse/s minor teams have mixed success In Minor Hockey the Peewee team travelled to Drayton on Wednesday night and were sound­ ly beaten by an 8 - 1 score. Dan Beuermann scored the only Brus­ sels goal. The Atoms were at home on Friday night to the visiting Bel­ more squad. Brussels took an early lead scoring three unanswered goals in the first period. Wayne Alexander scored the first goal unassisted and also the second goal on a pass from Todd Machan. Ryan Finch scored the third goal unassisted. The second period had Matt Lee assisted by Ryan Finch scoring the first goal and Todd Machan scored the second goal unassisted. BEAT THEDF0RD6 - 3 The Juniors departed from the usual home game on Sunday afternoon, to travel to Thedford to play hockey. The “Smurf line” got the Bulls off to a rolling start scoring the first goal of the game. Paul Coultes scored on a pass from Sean Kieffer and Ron Chambers. Paul Robinson assisted by Kevin McArter and Tim Fritz scored the second goal of the period giving the Bulls a 2 - 0 lead, and keeping the home team off the scoreboard. Brian Campbell scored on a pass from Kevin McArter and Marty Rutledge at 16:13 of the second period with the Lumberjacks get­ ting their first goal at 13:08. Mike Chapman, Mike Vincent and Dave Harding combined to score at 11:23 for the Bulls. Kevin McArter assisted by Tim Fritz and Blake Flett whistled a shot in the net with only four seconds remaining in the period. The Thedford team had the pressure on as they out-shot Brussels 15 - 8 in the period. Thedford scored 19 seconds into the period as they still kept the pressure on. They added another at 8.09 to make the score 5-3. Brussels completed the scoring at 3:56 when Tim Fritz assisted by Kevin McArter and Rob Cardiff beat the goalie and claimed a 6 - 3 victory. Goalie Jeff McGavin has to be mentioned for his outstanding game in net as he grabbed and deflected that little black piece of rubber extremely well. Thedford out-shot Brussels 34 - 30 in the game with Jeff protecting his goal posts well. It was great to see the Thedford player that was injured in Brussels last week and taken to hospital by ambulance to Seaforth, in attend­ ance at this game as a spectator with nothing more than torn cartilage muscles even though he will be uncomfortable for a while. The Bulls will be in Seaforth on Friday night for an 8:30 game against the Centennaires and at homeonSundayat2p.m.tothe visiting Clinton Mustangs. The third period had Brad Beuermann scoring unassisted; Ryan Finch from Todd Machan; and Wayne Alexander from Brad Beuerman. Belmore scored one more goal in the third with Brussels claimingan8 - 2 victory for their efforts. Sun., 2:00 p.m. Clinton Juniors at Brussels. Crusaders beat St. Clements The Intermediates played their only gameofthe week on Friday night in St. Clements. St. Clements took an early lead scoring their first goal at 16:35 and added the second goal at 14:14. Brussels’ Mike Watson assisted by Dave Golley put the Crusaders on the scoreboard mid-way through the period with the remainder of the period scoreless. The second period of play belonged to Brussels as they controlled the scoring. Kevin Hastie scored the first goal at the 18:10 mark on a pass from Kevin Deitner and Randy Clarke. Dave Montgomery assisted by Paul Johnston scored at the seven- minute mark for the second goal and with just 24 seconds remaining in the period Dave Golley and Rob Core combined to end the period at 4 - 2 in Brussels favor. There was just 4:10 remaining when St. Clements scored once more to come within one goal again. Mike Watson scored unassisted for Brussels with only nine seconds remaining on the clock to give the Crusaders a 6 - 4 win, after a good sound game of hockey.
