S Mrs. Mildred Lawlor Walkerburn Club backs the Biter Knox UCW plans family dinner The Walkerburn Club met at the home of Mrs. Tom Cunningham, Tuesday afternoon November 25. The meeting opened with the National Anthem. Mrs. Elliott Lapp led in prayer followed by the Lord’s prayer in unison. Mrs. Len Archambault opened the business with a verse on “Worry”. She reported that the White Gift service held Mrs. Gary Shuttleworth conduc­ ted the morning service, a White Gift Service, at Knox United Church, Sunday. The organ pre­ lude was played by Lori Millian. Michael Schneider, Ryan Middle­ camp, Laurel Campbell and April Gross ushered. Life and Work of the Church and prayers were given. The Junior Choir sang, “Jesus Came” under the direction of Mrs. Allan Webster with Mrs. Gordon Gross as pianist. The scriptures were read by Ian Andrews and Christy Bricker. The time for children was given by Kevin Webster. Proclamation of The Word was “In the Beginning.” Offering was received by Michael Bakker, Kurt Marchl, Melissa Hanna, and Shel­ ley Dobie. The service closed with the Congregational Benediction, “The Lord Our God”. Next Sunday will be Holy Communion Service. Booster Club Bazaar table had been quite successful. The draw donated by Mrs. Elliott Lapp was won by Mrs. Archambault. Mrs. Lloyd Penfound invited the club to her home for the January meeting. Mrs. Rick Archambault and Mrs. Tom Cunningham will be the lunch convenors and Mrs. Len Archam­ bault and Mrs. Kibble in charge of the program. Mrs. Keith Lapp moved that the club donate $150 to the “Back the Biter’ ’ fund. It was seconded by Mrs. Lloyd Penfound and carried. Discussion followed, re - gifts for a lady and gentleman at Huronview and to others for the Christmas season. A sale of articles left over from the Booster Club sale followed and all unsold knitted articles are now to be donated to the Children’s Aid. Mrs. Elliott Lapp read an article on “Cats’* and two word puzzles were then played. Mrs. Archambault and Mrs. Cunning­ ham served lunch and a social half hour closed the meeting. Knox United Church Women general meeting was held on November 26 at 2 p.m. in the church. The meeting opened with a verse “Bless this Day” followed by the hymn, “Onward Christian Sol­ diers” with Mrs. Barry Millian as pianist. Prayer was given by Mrs. Elliott Lapp, followed by beginn­ ing a sermonette on “Work”. This showed that daily work can be a service to God. Mrs. Maurice Bean read a scripture from Ecclesiastics (in the Apocrypha) which spoke about ordinary people who are the fabric of the world. She then continued on how in their usual tasks people most clearly reveal their relation­ ship to God. Offering was received by Mrs. Euchre party results There were five tables in play at the euchre party Tuesday, Novem­ ber 25 held at the Auburn Community Hall. Winners were: high lady, Carol Daer; high man, Don Haines; low lady, Bernice McClinchey; low man, Ted Mills; novelty, Murray Rollinson. Euchre parties are held every Tuesday evening at 8 p.m. at the Community Hall. A verse, “Women at Work” was given and the hymn, * ‘Work for the night is coming” was sung. Miss Betty Marsh told about the three delegates trip to the Pearce Williams Centre at Fingal and outlined the day there. A skit that was part of the Huron-Perth Worship service was given by Miss Marsh and Mrs. Lapp. They each gave reports on the study groups in which they took part. Miss Marsh stressed the importance of the U.C. W. purpose which was said in unison. Mrs. Peter Verbeek open­ ed the business period with prayer. Recommendations that the exe­ cutive had made were seconded by Miss Marsh and approved. The Christmas dinner collection is to be donated to the Christian Blind Mission and $25 will go to Alma College. Mrs. Dana Bean moved that part of next year’s usual layette be donated to survival through friendship house in God­ erich seconded by Mrs. Bob Arthur and carried. A Christmas family dinner was plannedfor December lOat 12a.m. The executive will be in charge of the programme. Mrs. Oliver Anderson gave the annual treasurer’s report and Mrs. Tom Jardin read several thank you notes. The president, the unit leaders and the various committee chair persons gave their yearly reports. Sorry to report that Mr. Gary Shuttleworth, minister of Knox United Church is a patient in Alexandra Marine and General Hospital, Goderich. We wish him a speedy recovery. Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Anderson were Mr. and Mrs. Allan Shackleton and daughter Laura of Kitchener. Mr. and Mrs. Greg Park, Penny and Terry Hodge and daughters visited on the weekend with Mrs. Park’s brother William Anderson of Newmarket. Christmas Family dinner for the Knox U.C..W will be held on Wednesday, December lOat 12 noon. Come and bring hubby or a friend. Pot luck dinner and meat and potatoes will be supplied. Special offering will be for Chris­ tian Blind Mission.
