Blyth Novice team wins and loses in week's play
BY RUSTY BLADES
Last Tuesday evening the Blyth
novice travelled to Milverton for a
veryspirited contest with Blyth
emerging with a 4 - 2 victory.
After Milverton took an early 1 -
0 lead, Blyth fought back to tie the
score before the first period ended
with a shorthanded tally. Chris
Howson and Ryan Chamney work
ed well together in the short-hand
ed situation as they pressured
Milverton with Ryan finally scor
ing on a nice set up from Chris.
After a scoreless second period,
Milverton once again took another
early lead in the third period.
However, Blyth’s determination

On November 17, at 8:30 p.m. at
the Blyth Arena the Blyth Pee
Wees were at home to the Mildmay
Pee Wees for the second of the
regular scheduled meetings.
The game was a hard-fought
contest with no scoring until 11:46
of the first period when Mildmay
got their first goal on a Blyth
defensive lapse. At the end of one
period Mildmay lead 1 - 0.
Mildmay was successful in
picking up two further goals in the
second period and going into the
third period Blyth was down 3 - 0.
On a strong offensive run by Rick
Howson, followed by Rob Finch,
Blyth was successful in the third
period in breaking the shut out of
the Mildmay goalie. Rob Finch
received the goal with the assist
going to Rick Howson. Strong
support was given to the team by
goalie Jason Elliott.
The game ended 3 - 1 for
Mildmay. The Blyth boys put up a
valiant effort and are improving
steadily.

goal of the third period for the 2 - 0
victory.
The Atom team played together
well and allowed only about three
shots on net in both games.
The Peewees on the other hand
cannot say the same thing. They
showed through in the final
minutes to snatch the victory.
A pretty passing play around the
Milverton goal crease Jed to the
tying goal. Jason Rutledge to Ryan
Chamney to Scott Arthur who
quickly one-timed the puck into the
net for the tying goal. Chris
Howson then relayed the puck to
Henry Bos who scored the winning
goal on a great wrist shot. Finally in
the final minute, on a powerplay,
Blyth scored the final goal of the
game as Chris Howson once again
assisted on a goal by Ryan
Chamney to secure the 4-2 win.
Blyth ran into a hot goaltending
tandem in Milverton but showed
they had the firepower to still score
goals. Chris Howson’s passing
proved to be a valuable asset to the
team as he picked up three assists.
Then on Wednesday evening,
Blyth played host to an improved
Seaforth team. Seaforth respond

In Ringette, the Brussels Petites
played Teeswater in Teeswater on
Friday night, with the Brussels
girls winning 6 -1. Sherri Huether
and Janice Jacklin each scored two
goals, while Kelly Overholt and
Jennifer Machan each had one.
Assists went to Krista Keffer, Erin
Mitchell and Jan VanKeulen.
On Sunday, the Petites travelled
to Tiverton to win the game there 4 -

split
travelled to Arthur on Monday
night to receive a severe 8 - 0
thrashing.
Arthur was to return here on
Friday night but cancelled out.
The team rebounded on Sunday
afternoon when they played an
exhibition game in Wingham
against a house league team there.
They defeated them 10-1.
with a 4 - 3 victory over Blyth.
After a scoreless first period,
Seaforth took a second period 2 -1
lead. Blyth sandwiches their goal
between the two Seaforth goals.
Ryan Chamney won the face-off
deep in the Seaforth end and
passed it to winger Henry Bos who
then relayed it back to the point.
Defenceman Jonathan Collin’s
shot deflected off a Seaforth player
and eluded the Seaforth goalie.
After an intermission pep talk
Blyth came out strong for the third
period. Brian McNichoI tied the
game for Blyth on a fine set up from
linemates Chris Howson and Scott
Arthur. Blyth then took their only
lead of the game as Ryan Chamney
assisted on a goal by Henry Bos.
Seaforth never quit and they
scored two late goals to secure the
victory. Incidentally, Seaforth had
twice as many fans at the game
as Blyth!
Last week featured two more
fine games by the local novice
team. There is a break in the
schedule this week as the team
prepares for the upcoming tourna-
ment in Seaforth this weekend.
Blyth opens the tournament on
Friday, November 28 at 6 o’clock
against this same Seaforth team.
