Santa Claus is coming to town December 6 Jolly old St. Nick will once again make his annual appearance in Brussels on Saturday, December 6, the guest of honour at the village’s Santa Claus Parade, which has been delighting kids for more than 35 years. The parade forms at 10:15 a.m. at the Brussels Agromart, and proceeds down the main street, likely travelling as far as the Callander Nursing Home. Judging of the floats will take place before the event gets underway, and cash WW I vet Fred Thuell attends Legion service in Walton prizes will be awarded. Featured this year will be the Brussels Twirlettes, the Seaforth Girls’ Band, and a squad of majorettes from Wingham. Any­ one may enter a float or other attraction, and there is no entry fee. Afterwards, Santa will be at the Brussels Firehall to talk to kids and hand out treats. On Monday night, a group of Brussels businessmen met to discuss the town’s Christmas promotion, and agreed to feature a Santa Claus Parade each year on the first Saturday of December. The annual event is sponsored by the town council, and the Brussels Lions, Legion and Opto­ mist Clubs. On Saturday, November 8, the Ladies’ Auxiliary bowling team were fortunate enough to place seventh in the Zone C-l bowling tournament. Comrade Bonnie Bre­ wer also won the prize for High Triple. The team will now compete in the District tournament in Waterloo on March 14, 1987. Tuesday, November 11, was Remembrance Day with the ser­ vice being held in Walton. In the evening, the re was the Remem­ brance Day Banquet. TheTjLadies’ Auxiliary prepared the hot buffet. Following the meal,-Reverend Carpentier, Legion branch 218 padre, was the guest speaker. Honoured guests were: M.P. Murray Cardiff and wife; M.P.P. Murray Elston and wife; Brussels Reeve, Hank Ten Pas and wife; Morris Reeve, Doug Fraser and wife; Representing Grey Reeve, Lyle Pettapiece and wife. Also present was Margaret Jarvis who read her Remembrance Day Poem which placed first in our Branch and 4th in the Zone competition last year. We were also honoured to have World War I veteran Fred Thuell in attendance. Ladies’ Auxiliary President Bonnie Brewer presented a cheque of $1,000 to Legion Presidert Cathy Burkholder to be used as needed. On Saturday, November 15, the Legion Zone C - 1 dart tournament was held in Kincardine. In the singles, Comrades Bob Richard­ son placed first, Eric Ross placed second, and Cam Ross placed fifth. In the Doubles, Bob Richardson and Eric Ross placed second; Cameron Ross and Clint Emmrich placed fourth. They will now advance to District Level in Galt, in March, 1987. Comrades Cathy Burkholder and Glenn Bridge attended the Seminar for Leadership and Legion Seniors on Wednesday, November 19 at Goderich, Branch 109. Comrade Don Blenkhorn is in hospital in London. We wish him a speedy recovery.
