Blyth Novices win big over Brussels
BYRUSTYBLADES
Last Wednesday, November 5
had the Brussels Novice travel to
Blyth for a contest which saw Blyth
completelyoverpowera struggling
Brussels team.
After everything was said and
done, Blyth had emerged with a
17-0 victory! I do not have a
photographic memory so it would
be impossible to describe every
goal. Blyth dominated the game
with clever passing, good position
al play and some smart shooting by
all team members.
Team sparkplug Jason Rutledge
led the blue and white with a
whopping six goals and two
assists. Shifty Brian McNichol
accounted for five goals and two
assists. Leftwinger Henry Bos
melted one goal but, more impor
tantly, chipped in with six assists.
Steady centreman Ryan Chamney
became the third member of the
team to record a hat trick in the
game, while also contributing one
assist. Scott Arthur seemed to
enjoy the switch from defence to
leftwing ashecameupwithfive
big assists.
Other point-getters for Blyth
were Jonathan Collins with one
goal and two assists; Peter Craig
with three assists; Christopher
Howson with one goal and one
assist and Frederick Datema with
one assist.
Defenceman Mark Shepherd
was the only skater not to record a
point but his solid leadership and
strong defensive play was a major
factor in the shutout enjoyed by the
goaltending tandem of Chris Lee
and Michael de Jong. What more
can be said about this game other
than a 17 - 0 score is embarrassing
to lose by. (as well as win by). I am
sure Brussels will come out strong
in their next game against Blyth
and provide stronger competition.
Enough said.
Blyth’s next game is tonight,
Wednesday, November 12 at 7
o’clock at the Blyth arena. This
should be a good test for Blyth as
they play host to Clinton.

Minorhockeyisgoing to start
getting into full swing shortly. The
Novice team got off to a rather
shaky start in Blyth on Wednesday
night for their first game of the
season, as they were defeated
soundly 17-0.

Beuermann and Trevor Machan.
The Bantams will play their first
game away in Drayton on Tuesday
night and the Midgets will be away
on Thursday night at Mildmay.

They re-grouped on Sunday
afternoon and came up with a
better game in Wingham where
they were defeated 7-1. Brad

Belgrave Atoms here and 8:30 will
have Howick Peewees in town.
Last week’s deer hunt was highly successful for the “Dale
stump-cutting gang' ’ of Blyth. The nine hunters bagged their quota in
the first three days of the hunt. Here [left to right] Les Dale, Ernie Dale,
Barry Bromley and Gordon Dale show off their prizes. Other members
of the party were Lloyd Dale, Lome Dale, Ray Storey, Bev Nott and Bev
Bromley.
Blyth Pee Wees began a busy
hockey schedule on Monday,
November 3 when they met up with
Tiverton. The boys managed only
one goal with Troy Carter scoring
in the third period, assisted by
Jason Campbell.
During the first two periods,
Tiverton outskated Blyth. By the
third period Blyth was back in the
game, but it was too late to affect
the outcome. Tiverton won the
game 6-1.
On Thursday, November 6 Blyth
travelled to Mildmay. Once again it
took the boys until the third period
to get into gear. In the first period
Jeff Olson scored, assisted by Rob
Anderson. Third period goals were
scored by Rick Howson, assisted
by Jeff Bromley and Rob Anderson
assisted by Troy Carter and Jason
Campbell.
Blyth goalie Jason Elliott played
a strong game, stopping many
shots. However the team lost the
game 7 - 3.
The Blyth boys are very happy to
welcome 6 Belgrave boys to their
team this year. With a little more
practice the boys have the makings
of being a strong team this year.
Once again the team is under the
capable direction of Gary Courtney
and Pat Cronin. As well this year,
Jim Dickson is helping with the
coaching.
Members of the Blyth team are:
Paul McIntosh, Ian Andrews, Jeff
Olson, Rick Howson, Kevin Souch,
Mark Coultes, Danny Van Bakel,
Rob Anderson, Darryl Elliott, Troy
Carter, Tom Cull, Rob Finch,
Jason Campbell, Jeff Bromley and
Jason Elliott, goalie.
