Brussels didn’t miss many other chances, however, as they piled up a 9 -1 win. The Blyth Novice Ringette Team is off and running (or skating). First of all, apologies to Sarah McNichol for omitting her name from the last write up. All 12 players are important. The girls have had two success­ ful sessions on the ice and the excitement is growing. The first scheduled game is on Saturday, November 29 at 12 noon Bulls beat Clinton 9-5 BYLOISMcARTER The Brussels Junior’s played only one game on the weekend at Clinton on Friday night. Brian Campbell assisted by Kevin Johnston and Kevin Lee opened the scoring early in the period for the Bulls. Five minutes later the Mustangs tied the score for Clinton. Mid-way through the period Tim Fritz scored on a pass from Dave Harding and Kevin Johnston on a power-play effort. Clinton came back in a similar situation to tie the score once more. Marty Rutledge assisted by Tim Fritz and Blake Flett scored the Crusaders score two more dose victories The Brussels Intermediates tra­ velled to Arthur on Friday night to play hockey. Ken Cousins assisted by Brian Deitner opened the scoring one minute and 42 seconds into the game. Arthur came back on a power play effort to tie the game a minute later and then went ahead at the 12:45 mark. Brussels’ Len Stamper assisted by Ken Cousins scored to tie the game just 19 seconds later. Dave Stephenson scored unassisted at 9:21 to give Brussels the lead once more with Kevin Deitner assisted by Cousins adding an insurance goal before the period ended. The second period was a see-saw battle as Arthur scored the opening goal, then Dave Golley assisted by Cousins scored for Brussels. Arth­ ur scored thenextgoalandthen Kevin Deitner scored assisted by Dave Stephenson and Brian Ten- pas to add one more Crusaders i goal. Arthur scored the remaining two goals of the period to close the second at a 6 - 6 tie. Kevin Deitner, unassisted, opened the scoring in the third at 14:23. Just 17 seconds later Ken Cousins, Dave Stephenson and Brian Deitner combined to add another Brussels goal. Brian Ten- pas completed the Crusader scor­ ing at the 47 second mark and with just three seconds remaining Arthur scored their final goal, and gave Brussels the 9 - 7 victory. Sunday evening had the team at home to the visiting Drayton Comets. Ken Higgins scored from Ken Cousins 12 seconds into the game for the first goal with 5:46 left in the period before Dave Stephen­ son scored from Cousins and Mike Watson to end the period at 2 - 0. Drayton opened the scoring at 18:32 and action continued until the 10:38 mark when Dave Steph­ enson scored on a pass from Len Stamper. Drayton scored on only one of many power-play changes that they had during the remainder of the period, with the second period ending at 31 - 2 in Brussels favor. Ken Cousins scored Brussels only third period goal in the first minute of play, and goalie Rob Stute let only one Drayton goal count in the third period to help Brussels claim the close 4-3 victory. The Intermediates will have only one game this week when they will be at home to Wellesley on Sunday evening at 8 p.m. Fans may also support the team by attending their fund-raising dance on Saturday night at the Legion Hall. It’s a much warmer way of giving them help. go-ahead goal for Brussels with 1:20 left in the period. Twelve seconds into the second period Doug Shaw assisted by Marty Rutledge scored for the Bulls. Mike Vincent, Mike Chap­ man and Kevin Johnston added one more at the 10-minute mark. Clinton scored their only goal of the period at 7:57. Blake Flett, Tim Fritz and Marty Rutledge added one more for Brussels at 3:27 and with only 11 seconds left on the clock Marty Rutledge, assisted Fritz and Campbell toclosethe period at 7 - 3 for Brussels. Ten seconds into the third period the Mustangs scored to add one more to their total. Fritz, Campbell and Lee combined for Brussels at the 15:35 mark and just nine seconds later Rob Cardiff assisted by Chapman completed the scor­ ing for Brussels. Clinton added one more goal at 12:47 and the remainder of the game was scoreless for a 9 - 5 victory for the Brussels squad. The Bulls will be at home for a mid-week game on Wednesday (to night) at 9 p.m. against Mitchell. They will return to Mitchell on Friday night for an 8:30 start and back home on Sunday at 2 p.m. against Clinton. J m Blyth against Exeter. It is hoped that a lot of interested fans will come out and support the girls. In the meantime Julie is plann­ ing to take the team to see a Ringette game in Seaforth so the girls can see “how it is done” since some of them have never seen a game.
