Smoke, pouring from an upperstory window of the Murray Houston
home east of Walton nearly obscures a volunteer on the roof of the
house, Friday morning. Grey township firemen battled the stubborn
blaze for four hours.
2 fires hit community
Early Thursday morning fire for several hours. It was reported
broke out in one of the three dryers
at Cook’s in Walton. Grey Twp.
firemen from Ethel were on hand
that a lot of damage was done to the
dryer that won’t be repaired this
season.

On Friday morning fire broke out
in the Murray Houston home on the
sideroad off the 16th of Grey. Grey
Twp. firemen were called again. It
is reported Maxine and children
were not home at the time and
Murray was ploughing. Quite a lot
of damage was done to the home.

ed on Sunday with their mother,

The Agriculture and Canadian
Industries meeting of the Walton
Women’s Institute is to be held in
their hall Wednesday evening,
November 19. Roll call is to be
answered by ‘ ‘ My favourite beauty
spot in Canada. ” This being the
Grandmother’s meeting, mem
bers are to bring a grandmother.
Guest speaker will be Judy Jewitt
explaining the kit on farming that
the W.I. sponsored.

Sunday morning service at Duff’s
United. Margery Huether was
organist accompanied by Phyllis
Mitchell and violin.
The Armistice Service will be
held this year at Duff’s following
the service at the Brussels Ceno
taph.
Walton I unit meeting is sche
duled for this Wednesday evening
in the church basement. Members
are reminded of the Copper
Contest.
The annual Turkey Supper was
held this past Wednesday at Duff’s
when over 550 people sat down to a
sumptuous meal of turkey and all
the trimmings with a variety of
pies.
The Youth group from Walton
and Bluevale churches enjoyed
skating at Brussels Arena Sunday
evening, later meeting at the home
of a member for a social hour.
There were several people from
this area who attended the open
house for Leila Johnston to cele
brate her 80th birthday. It was held
in Ontario United Church, Clinton.

Mrs. Leslie Knight was hostess
for the November W.I. meeting.
President Mrs. John Vanass open
ed the meeting in the usual way.
It was decided to donate $20 to
the Wingham and Area Day Care
Centre for the Homebound and $15
to the Poppy Fund. The Christmas
meeting is to be a pot luck casserole
dinnerwith Ethel W.I. as guests. It
will be held in the Community
Centre with time and date to be
finalized.
Mrs. Donald Perrie gave a report
on the County Rally held in Walton.
Mrs. Clare Veitch, the delegate to
the Area Convention at Maryhill
reported on that meeting. Gerald
Knight and Dwayne Evans gave a
report on their trip to Expo ‘86 at
Vancouver. Gerald outlined and
told about Expo and the highlights
of the other places around Vancou
ver. Banff, Lake Louise, Edmonton
and Calgary. Dwayne did a
commentary on the beautiful slides
of Expo and places they had
visited. Mrs. Gordon Engel thank
ed the boys and presented them
with a gift.

1985-86 and also won the $330
Centennial Scholarship.

night and all had a good time
