In addition to the cash contribution approaching $5,000.00 and the significant efforts of two local businesses the list of donations to the novelty auction is increasing. Both Rad- ford’sof Blyth and Brussels and The Old Mill, south of Blyth have offered unique approaches with Radford’s offering 10% of sale sfor the week November 3-8, while Glenyce Snell is offering the expertise required to make the Women’s Institute Fashion Show on Friday night, November 28, a success. The most unique item to date for the novely auction is the premier of Ontario’s autographed tie which will be auctioned by the Honorable Jack Riddell M.P.P. who will be on hand to assist auctioneer Richard Lobb. The variety concert set for Saturday, November 28 is taking shape and a schedule of perform­ ers should be available shortly. Any potential participant should contact Al Bosman at 523-4286. O Cana­ da was sung. Roll call was answered by 24 members. The minutes of the last meeting were read by the secretary Margar­ et Good. The treasurer’s report was read by Hazel Reid showing a balance of $31.93. Audrey report­ ed on the executive meeting. The Christmas dinner meeting will be held November 26 at 12:30 p.m. at $7 per plate and will be catered to by the U.C.W. The sign will be up by November 16. A brief report on the rally held at Dungannon on October 6 was read by Dora Shobbrook. A get-well card was signed by all for Jim McEwing. A reading was given by Clara Riley called “A letter worth reading on Income Taxes.” It was moved that a collection be taken for * ‘ Back the Biter” for Ron Nesbitt, at the November 26 meeting. A reading was given by Audrey Thompson called ‘‘Watch the Corners.” Euchre was played and winners were: pink cards high, Dora Shobbrook; lone hands, Verna Glazier; low, Estella Adams; blue card high, Hazel Watkins; lone hands, Les Reid; and low, Vietta Hoggart. The ushers were Randy Howatt, Paul Jewitt, Brent Radford and Murray Whyte. A hymn-sing was held prior to the service led by Rev. Snihur with Gail Lear at the piano. The call to worship and announcements were given. A meeting of special discussion will be held Tuesday, November 18 at 8 p.m. on “1987” what’s in the future for Londesboro United Church? The Harvest Family Dance is changed from November 14 to November 29 to support the dance for Ron Nesbitt’s “Back the Biter” weekend. The children’s song was “Surprise a Hallowe’en Jack-o-Lantern” andtheyhada pumpkin on display. The pumpkin had the insides cleaned out and a candle lit for inside to shine out. Junior teachers were Linda and Angela Horbanuik. The scripture was from Matthew about the sentence and lesson of washing the disciples’ feet and Judas the betrayer. The music was by “Special Division” from Clin­ ton. The sermon was a tale of two wash basins. At the close of the service, ‘‘Special Division” fa­ voured with more music. They are having a free concert at the High School on November 8 at 8 p.m. Rev. Snihurthanked them and also Gail Lear for her music and to Sara Lyons and Deanna Lyon. Shirley Lyon graduates with BA Shuffle Board season begins November 5 at 8 p. m. in the school. All are welcome. Edythe Beacom and Laura Lyon attended the 24th Anniversary at Blyth United Church on Sunday morning when their cousin Rev. Reid Vipond of Metropolitan Church, London was guest speak­ er. The W.I. Culture Affairs meet­ ing will be held on November 12 at 8 p.m. in the hall. Roll call will be a law you would like to see changed. The speaker will be Jane Whitney from Bluewater Centre for Young Offenders. Each members is to bring a guest. Congratulations to Shirley Lyon on her graduation Friday. She received her B.A. at London WesternUniversity. Attending were her husband Murray, Brad­ ley and Deanna, her mother Pearl Hamilton, Aunt Mary Holland, Laura Lyon and Edythe Beacom. Visiting on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Burns were their daughter Barbara Paterson, Katie and Jennifer, London. Last weekend Allen and Ruth Shaddick and family attended the graduation exercises for Certified General Accountants at Harbor Castle Halton Hotel in Toronto when their son Jeffrey received his degree in C.G.A. Leonard Vodden of Paris visited on Tuesday, October 28 with her brother Ken and Joy and his sister Dora Shobbrook. An error last week was Florence Cardiff, Brussels not Cartwright. A Lions Hallowe’enparty was held at the hall on October 31.
