Carpentier speaks at church 4-Hers to entertain mothers Mrs. Olive Bolt accompanied her brother Clarence Stokes of Wingham to the 50th wedding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Irwin Reidt in the Clifford Community Centre Saturday, October 25. Mrs. Reidt (Helen Milligan) was a former school pupil of Mrs. Bolt. Mr. Maitland Edgar of Petrolia; Miss Brenda Edgar and Mrs. Irlma Edgar of Wingham; Mrs. Chas. Johnston of Blyth and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Edgar of RR 4, Wingham were dinner guests at thehomeof Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse on Friday, October 24 to help celebrate Audrey Edgar’s birthday which falls on October 27. Mrs. Laura Johnston, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston and girls of Ilderton. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Long of Scottsdale, Arizona visited on Thursday afternoon with Mr. and East Wawanosh Gazette Classes busy Mrs. Bert Johnston. Mrs. Rob Roy and baby Chris­ tina of Lakefield spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson. On Sunday they all visited with Mr. and Mrs. Rick Ball and family of Hanover to help celebrate Alicia Ball’s first birth­ day. Mrs. Carrie McGuire of Brook­ haven Nursing Home, Wingham, visited on Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse. Rev. Charles Carpentier, mini­ ster of Brussels United Church, took charge of the services at Calvin-Brick United Church and Knox United Church, Belgrave, while Rev. John G. Roberts was guest speaker for the anniversary service at the United Church in Brussels. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon McBurney spent Sunday afternoon with Ed­ gar, Harry and Miss Iva Carr, relatives, of Dungannon. 4HNEWS BY HEATHER HOPPER Meeting No. 7 was held on October 21, at 6 p.m. the Women’s Institute Hall. Meeting No. 7 was held before No. 6 because No. 6 is going to be a buffet in which the girls prepare a food for their mothers and friends. They started out this meeting by making posters for their achieve­ ment night display. They looked at four different menus and checked off the four 7 tables at euchre party Seven tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the Women’s Institute Hall, Wed­ nesday, October 22. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Marj. Coultes; Novelty lady, Mrs. Belgrave W! holds meeting Belgrave Women’s Institute enjoyed a very informative meet­ ing on October 21 at the Women’s Institute Hall. Education was the theme and Paula Blagrave, dietician from Wingham Hospital was the guest speaker and she stressed the need for calcium in all ages and the sources it came from. A lovely lunch was served and enjoyed by all. different food groups, then decid­ ed which one had the most points. They went to the kitchen and made sundaes which had all sorts of toppings. They cleaned up and closed the meeting. Meeting No. 4 was held on October 7 at 7p.m. in the Women’s Institute Hall. The girls talked mainly about different types of cultured dairy products, such as yogurt, butter­ milk, sour cream and cottage Mabel Wheeler; low lady, Mrs. Edith Coultes; high man, Albert Quipp; novelty man, Leslie Vin­ cent; low man, Edgar Wightman. Next they discussed differ­ ent types of cream and their uses. Last they talked about the different kindsofbutter andwhy they are good for you. Goderich 524-2773 1-800-265-5503 GRADES 4-5 The grade 4-5 class is taught by Mr. Scott in the morning and Madame Turcotte-Lapaine. The students are eager and keen and working hard. In Science they are studying the fencerow community. They did a project and walked around the school grounds looking at weeds and leaves. Also in grade 4-5 they have written a pattern book and illustrated it after the teacher has read it. The students are starting a monster unit. By Ryan Pletch and Anne Taylor GRADE 7-8 On Monday, October 6 Grade 7-8 class went to the Ska-Nah-Doht Indian Village at Delaware. Ska- Nah-Doht is located on 155 acres of beautiful surroundings of Long- woods Conservation area. There was an Indian Village there 1,000 years ago. A class trip to Ska-Nah- Doht is an excellent place for native studies. The grade 7-8 class is doing a newspaper study. They are grow­ ing beans in science class. In their geography class, they are studying North America. By Jennifer Elston and Tim Coultes LIBRARY Mr. Kerr is working with Grade 4-5 with novels. He took Grade 2 and helped them with centres and machinery. He helped Grade 3 with their invention groups. There are adult and student volunteers helping in the library. The library has many new books. There is a new Resource Centre in the school. By Rob Johnston and Sherry Taylor STUDENT PARLIAMENT On September 19, 1986 the Student Parliament held a Hat and Tie Day for the junior wing and a Future Aspiration Day for the senior wing. For dressing up the junior wing played Wilfred and Pip Squeak. The seniors played King’s Court. Grades 5-6 and Grade 7-8 tied for a movie because Mr. Chaulk counted up the percentage of the people in each class to see who dressed up and earned to see the movie. ByCheltaVair and Kyle Moran OUR PRINCIPAL We have a new principal at our school this year. His name is Mr. Ken Scott and he comes to our school from Brussels Public School. Mr. Scott says he likes it at East Wawanosh. He enjoys the student’s behaviour and appreci­ ates the teacher’s help. At East Wawanosh everyone rides on buses where at Brussels many students stayed after school. That’stheone mainthing he thinks is different aboyt our school.
