Brussels woman spent summer in India ■ t ANN JAMIESON Ann Jamieson is an extraordi narily beautiful young woman from Brussels, whose love of people and total devotion to the life work she has accepted make meeting her an unforgettable experience, even for an unbeliever. Miss Jamieson is a devout disciple of the Campus Crusade for Christ, an international and inter denominational Christian organi zation charged with winning peo ple to Jesus Christ, building them in their own faith, and sending them out to share His love with others around the world. The basic tenet of the Crusade is the Great Commission of Matthew, found in verses 28: 19,20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.” The idea behind the Crusade is simple, and effective: each mem ber is to recruit others through one-on-oneevangelism, tobuild on thatfaith through discipleship, and to send that new recruit out to repeat the process, in a mathema tical progression that aims to unite people around the world in a unique global ministry. “Win the campus for Christ today, and you will win the world for Christ tomorrow” is the motto that has characterized the Campus Crusadefor Christ’s ministry to university students since its be ginning at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1951, a ministry which now employs more than 16,000 people serving in 163 countries around the world, and reaching millions of Christians from tens of thousands of churches of all denominations, as well as from other Christian organiza tions. All full-time staff members must raise funds to cover their own salaries and other ministry expen ses. This is done by having members develop their own “fin ancial support teams”, by seeking commitments of ongoing funding from businesses and private indivi- duals known to the member; a certain financial goal must be reached before a staff member may take up full-time work on a university campus. Miss Jamieson is now seeking to meet her goal, and has travelled to Sudbury, Kitchener-Waterloo and London to muster support. Once she has obtained this, she will go on staff at the University of Guelph, where she will likely serve for one year, before being trans ferred to another campus, depend ing upon the need. In order to saturate- university campuses with the gospel and to raise up more manpower to help reach the world for Christ, the Crusade for Christ is moving ahead to place staff at all of Canada’s universities. And through inter nationalsummerprojects, they are challenging students and lay- people to join the Crusade all around the world. Miss Jamieson was one of a team of five, which with 60 other Crusaders travelled to India last summer to spend two months in the beautiful state of Kerala in south ern India, bringing the gospel first to the pastors of local churches, and then through the pastors, to other members of the church, and then outward to whole communi ties. “Such a large number of people came to Christ that we had to plant six new churches in our area alone, to pour our lives into others so that the.effect may continue on and on,’’ said Miss Jamieson. “Churches there were dying, just as they are dying in Canada, because people were not sharing theirlives with Christ, and with each other.” “The Crusade uses the same methods Jesus used to attract disciples. It is the simplicity of the concept that makes it so effective, ’ ’ she concluded. For anyone wishing to become involved, Miss Jamiesoncan be reached at 887-6858. Melville Guild meets Melville Guild members held their October meeting on Oct. 22 in the church parlour. Sixteen regular members and one visitor attended. Elizabeth Jamieson and Joan Exel were in charge of devotions, opening with a hymn of Thanks giving and a poem on the same theme read by Joan. The scripture from Thessalonians chapter 1 was read in unison followed by a study of the chapter conducted by Elizabeth Jamieson who then led in prayer. Kathleen Semple presided over the business portion, minutes being read by Elunid McNair and the treasurer’s report given by Jeanne Ireland. Reports were given concerning our birthday party for September at the Nursing Home, the Lions’ dinner and the serving of the Progressive Conser vative dinner in the arena.
