The Bear Truth New monument for school BY KELLY COOK On Saturday, October 18, Mr. Paul Yanchus of Blyth, built a monument in the corner of the schoollot. Itwashalfpaidforby the School Board with the rest of the funds coming from school money­ raising activities. The stone which was above the door in the old school now has its place in the monument, surround­ ed by angel-stone. The original bell is also on display at the top of the monument, and a flower bed is to be planted at the base of the monument. CROSSCOUNTRY BY DAVID HESSELS AND KEVIN SOUCH On October 22, Hullett School held a cross-country meet. It was a beautiful day, and the students enjoyed the fresh air. The Blyth Midget girls won the pennantfor their division with a total of 16 points. The members of this division are Stephanie Lentz (2nd), Jodee Medd (4th), Amber Gelwicks (10th), Marie Cronyn (11th), Kim Ferguson and Kim Richmond. The Midget boys placed as follows: Jerrod Button (4th) and Paul Hessels (10th). In the Junior division Tammi Medd placed first for girls and the for the boys Kevin Souch placed sixth and Jason Elliott was ninth. In the Intermediate division, our top girl was Rhonda Stadelmann (10th), and in the boys’ division, ourtoprunnerwasChris Mason (29th). In the Senior division (girls), Tabatha Montgomery ran ninth, and for the boys, Mike Pawitch ran in first place with Darryl Elliott in seventh. Following the gruelling races, Freshie was served to the runners. Congratulations to everyone on the school team for being such good competitors and to Mrs. Battye and Mr. Yeats, the coaches, for their interest and excellent training. PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITY DAY BY LORI BAILEY, SARAH ALLEN AND CHRYSTAL CUCKSEY On Friday, October 24, all the teachers in Huron County, primary schools, attended a professional development day called “Agricul­ ture and Education: Growing Together”. This event was held in Exeter. It was planned by the Profes­ sional Development Committee to make teachers more aware of agriculture and the ways of using agricultural themes in classroom activities. There were displays available from various commodity groups who also provided free samples of “munchies”. Speakers included Mr. J. Rid­ dell, M.P.P., Minister of Agricul­ ture, and Ross Daly, CFPL, Farm and Business editor. The teachers at Blyth Public School all agreed that it was an informative and enjoyable day.
